I was taking pictures for my daughters team, Punishers 14U. This is one of her team mates sliding in. The catcher did not get control of the throw when she turned to make the tag.

Thank You :) . Sometimes I get lucky and take a picture like these (above), other times I am too busy watching the game and forget I am holding a camera.

Here is one from Park City. The fences at West Valley City softball fields kept getting in my shots. The runner was OUT at the plate in this one.

If you can not see the ball in this last one, look at the shadows on the ground. ;)

The ball is hidden by the catchers' right hand but you can see the shadow of the ball is just below the runners' left foot in the picture. This was a quick catch and tag play.

My camera is a Nikon D-70 and I like to shoot in Aperature Mode where I select the shutter speed. The first two pictures I was using a Tamron 18-200mm Lens pressed up to the fence. The last shot I was using a Nikkor 70-300mm Lens because I was so far away.

Hmmm, that does look like a 04 Rocket Tech.

Nice shots cabbie -

What's your take on the Tamron lense? I shoot a Canon 40D and love the camera but just cannot get myself to the $1000+ Canon "L" lenses. Great glass of course, but seeing the Tamron lenses for far less has always tempted me...

I only have four lenses and I also do not want to spend $1000+ for a lense.

Tamron 18-200 is the only lense I own that is not a Nikkor and I like it. Sometime the Nikon camera Autofocus does not communicate with the Tamron Lense so I have to take the lense off, wipe the connectors, put the lense on and try again. Other than that the Tamron 18-200 is my multi-purpose lense. In Utah I was switching between a Nikkor 18-70 to 70-300 lenses depending on the shot. Now just one lense now for closeups and distant shots. I use Nikon Capture NX2 for post-processing.

Would I buy another Tamron Lense? Yes.

Good to know - thanks for the input.

I've been shooting the Canon 28-135 and have been generally happy with it. It gets a little soft north of 100 and the uber-cheap Canon 70-300 is pretty much worthless past about 200.

I shoot a lot - scratch that... I shoot pretty much ALL sporting events and need the ability to reach out further than 135 will get me. If I stay around f8/9, it's pretty sharp, but there's a significant change in the depth of focus. Would love to run a 2.8 lens, but then we're back to $1000+.

Hence, the look at Tamron...

Interesting to hear of the A/F issue - I wonder if there's a marginal problem with the fitment of the contacts...?
