I realize that they aren't in metal cleats, yet, but the baseman is in a good position to get spiked. She needs to straddle the bag and swipe.

Well that shortstop is a '96 12U and the base runner is a 14U. Although they say size matters, we were the smallest team in the tournament, the only 12U, and took 2nd. We may be small but it sometimes works to our advantage because the older bigger girls take us for granted. There were eight other teams in that tournament that made that same mistake....lol

She's doing exactly what she is being taught to do....tag the runner and block the base.

The girl is in front of the bag reaching back to make the tag. The throw could have pulled her up. Maybe not best position but less chance of taking a cleat than straddling with the runner directly in front.
