My freshman DD's experience with HS ball is as follows: After playing t-ball, league, then moving to travel at 9 years old, she's seen it all. Tries out for the HS team, makes the varsity squad -entire team consists of 15 players (4 of which are TB players-3 of those freshman). Anyway, after first few practices DD realizes this is a joke, just for fun, time to party-comes home saying practices are "pointless" and "boring". After first game-says games lack intensity, pressure, produce no real reason to fully apply herself. Wants to quit - we talk her into staying the remainder of the season (8 weeks) and maybe things will get better. After a couple of weeks it is evident coach has picked her favorites, and it really doesn't hurt the win/loss record because we are a 1A school in rural area. Record is now 10-0 against weak teams we've beat 10-0, run ruled, several errors, etc., but we still win. We and DD are both happy with her playing time, not like she's missing anything either way. Anyway, jealous drama starts, parents bicker and bad mouth coach behind her back, love her to her face, coach talks about players and parents to other parents, girls back stab each other, so on and so on. Finally we face a good non-district team which she knows will beat us-so she starts off with DD pitching (this has only happened against 1 of the 10 teams we have already faced). First two batters - base on errors, hit, error, so on and so on. Our team doesn't hit, short story-we loose 11-2, and daughter takes only loss so far, so that the favored pitcher doesn't get the loss. Next night is the BIG district game that we again are sure to loose, but thankfully she has saved the "Best-Strongest" pitcher for that. Needless to say-she finally pulled that pitcher in the 6th inning after we were down 11-0. I hate it for that pitcher-good pitcher-bad attitude-bad mouthing parents-and the coach's little plan exploded in her face. Needless to say this coach has 5-6 more games to play that DD will not attend. Learned the hard way, and won't go back until this coach leaves. Just no comparison to TB at all!!
