For catchers and their parents

What's on your mind?

by okieboy » Tue May 13, 2008 10:12 am

I found this on the OklahomaBall website......I thought y'all might enjoy it.

Those first days of sleepless nights
Hourly checks to ease our frights.
Her first smile brightened the day;
Her first words, what did she say?!
Learning to walk, bruises and cries
Baby proofing the house, singing lullabies.
Her first day of school, fresh crayons and books,
Smiling and waving as she hung her bag on the hook.
The first practice, what a scene!
Pigtails and ponytails and everything in between.
Balls going everywhere, but the glove.
Uh oh, I see it, this might be love!
From t-ball to machine, oh how time flies!
Live pitches and stealing now? Oh how she tries.
Bruises and cuts, badges of honor worn with pride.
Blood, sweat and tears, oh wait, the tears she hides.
She walks proudly, with dirt on her face
She’s a ball player now, all athletic grace.
She commands the field, no disobedience allowed.
None of her attention is on the crowd.
She calls the pitches, she protects home.
Down in her crouch, a queen on her throne.
The sweat dribbles down, muscles clenched tight
The pitch comes in, a glance of movement on her right.
She comes up throwing, hard and fast
Short stop moves over, no ball gets past.
The runner slides low, short stop swings down,
Two players collide, the ump wears a frown.
She’s out! he yells, the girls smile with pride
But the General’s face? Nothing. Emotions she must hide.
Her teammates are her sisters, win or lose.
She wouldn’t have any others if she had to choose.
Softball is her life now, no parties or boys.
Her bat and her glove are her only toys.
That first taste of softball, so many years have passed,
Has formed a bond so strong, a love that will always last.
Don't run through the screen door....you might strain yourself.

Reminds me of the little missus after one too many snack bar burritos.
