43' Pitching Distance

I tried to derail another post, but I really do have 2 questions regarding the 43' distance:

I understand NFCA and ASA are different entities, but why would the travel ball coaches at a NFCA convention vote to change pitching distances for 16-18G when it really doesn't matter until ASA says so? Is there a step one (NFCA), step two (ASA) process?

I also understand (I think) the advantages of being classified as an 18A team vs 18G and have heard the comments about how moving 16 & 18A to 43' may improve attendance and exposure to colleges. With the statements of early verbals (16A) and college coaches wanting to see their prospects playing the best in the country (18G), is the 18A classification really going to get better attendance? Do many teams classify 18A just so they can attend more tournaments?

No, it is not a multi-step process. While NFCA is an affiliate member of ASA, I believe they only have a single vote on the ASA council.

Part of the reason for the change was to level out the teams playing at 18U. Not all teams are Gold, but apparently many played up for the exposure which included the 43' pitching distance.
Part of this change was probably to allow exposure at the 43' pitching distance without some teams incurring the commitment and expense of competing in the Gold program.
