Agreed...Skarp. I guess the two things I have a problem with are...one, if you read the email from Ann, ASA did not seem too concerned by the challenges many of these teams could experience other than potentially staying up until 10pm on Sunday...and I'm not sure if that was a concern for the players or themselves. Sure they recognized school, but that sounded more like a courtesy than anything else. After all, she would allow for a forfeit. Also, I love how they played the victim card too..."But, unfortunately the weather did not cooperate with us"....uh no, you did not account for potential weather conditions and failed to prepare accordingly. Secondly, I was not out there on Friday or Saturday and did not see the field conditions, but as I've said before...putting in a little extra work on said fields and we may have avoided this entire disaster. I did not see a drop of rain all weekend and I'm closer to Hemet than most. IMO, they should have done anything and everything possible to get that tournament in as scheduled....every place else did. Good luck to those teams playing at 5pm and getting there on time and safely!

I agree to a point. They should certainly build flexibility into their process. So perhaps a round or two of games could have been completed last weekend (either in Hemet or some fall-back location), making this weekend less burdensome on all involved.

But I don't agree that ASA should entertain all (or any) of the various issues that participants may have with respect to the schedule that they ultimately do issue, whether it be school, traffic, or anything else. That's just inviting trouble.

Maybe the teams complaining about the late game times should hope they don't make it to Nationals. There WILL be rain at nationals and there WILL be delays and LATE games. As a matter of fact, they warn the coaches of this problem and tell them that if they have to call a game at 3:00 you will bee there. If it is to much, go back to rec and just have fun.

I think it was 2005 at 14u Nationals where they had the Championship game start at 11:00 as they could not have a game start on Sunday.

Oh, and be careful, some of the states that Nationals are being held at......they don't sell boose on Sunday's

SoCal ASA has NO excuses....they are huge and need to be broken up....these tournaments are way too big and they don't have the facilities nor the time needed to run them. But they get to go to their National meetings knowing how big they are and thinking that they have influence...which they don't. But their egos are satisfied and the know that breaking them up will never happen because of the effort required to do it.

For those of you that are complaining about a Fri 5:00 start time, wait until next year when
your teams are at 14 states, in the past they have started games at 2:00pm on Friday in Hemet and that's usually conflicts with 8th graduations and dances. Good luck to all this weekend.

Maybe these ASA people have never played or been deeply involved with travel ball. Sort of like some of the city building inspectors. They learned their trade from a book but never pounded one nail and have no common sense. Sam and Spazsdad with all your free time why don't you get in their and straighten up that mess at ASA. We all complain about it but no one does anything about it. I think ASA is on a down hill spiral. For the Fastpitch organization that is supposed to be the big show I just don't see it any more. In So Cal ASA hosts the Turkey Tourney-very low numbers this year and state- very low numbers this year. Someone needs to step up. How about you Skarp you got it in ya?

TCS has at least one tourney a month sometimes more and they always pull big numbers. Their tourneys are always well organized and you don't have to wait 3 days before you know when you play.

Wow Skarp....a 2am response. If that's typical for you I'd hate to see you put the smack down on some of these wannabes when you actually get a full night sleep.

Splitting the weekends would have been a fair consideration, I think, as well as alternate locations would have likely worked too. I'm just not convinced that the powers that be considered any and all possibilities in preparation for the weekend. Furthermore, I would not have asked ASA to literally entertain any of the potential issues that most of us will face....of course it looks like they have begun to do that...moving the Stingers game. I guess I would have at least expected them to do a better job communicating to the teams and showing some empathy...other than "I will accept forfeits". This might have been a good time to say "we get it, and we explored many alternatives, including....blah, blah, blah, but unfortunately....blah, blah, blah". I always error on the side of over-communication, I guess.

(Understand though that mine is a noble endeavor. Those who "do" need to do well, or move aside for someone who will.)
