"allowed prep" is always based on time set by the tournament director and NOT the umpire.
Game time is game time and quite often fields begin running behind further adding to the crunch.
A rake is nice.. prioritize that. in front of the bases, pitcher area, home plate areas. Shorthop areas like the base paths around F4 and F6 fielding areas also can be done depednding on time.. then from there, whereever.
Water is more important that chalk.
If all thats done and there is time.. make it pretty and chalk it.
Otherwise a few minute "pit stop" between games is all that can be done, so do the important stuff.
Oh, and dont rake out existing lines.
I'll never understand why field crews run a rake between Home and 3rd and home and 1st, and then there is no line.
This is a low priority area any way, so do that ONLY if you have time to rechalk.
Did I mention water it?
Oh yea, one more thing, dont forget to water it.
