No matter what you do there will always be someone better, the question is, what do we do to make ourselves better for next time.

You tell them that is why they play better teams . . . to get better themselves. There is no shame in getting beat in any athletic competition. I'm not sure where this diminishing of teams that are not "the best" has come from in recent years, but it is getting worse. Blame in our generation fo parents probably.

I tell them they had a great game and played well, I'd focus on the things that they did well and tell them that you are proud of how they played, and some days even if you play your best it's just not your day...IMO effort should be praised, not talent, you cant always be the most talented, but you can teach them not to be out worked or out hussled!

Every team gets beat at some point, no matter how good they are (Team USA vs Virginia Tech ring a bell) If you are not getting beat once in a while, you aren't playing anyone. As long as you got beat and didn't give it away on errors or lack of hitting etc., then learn from it and strive to continue to get better.
