USA article concerning D1 athletes and their majors

What's on your mind?

It is mostly about football, but some of it still applies to all athletes and is what I have been telling people that I am seeing from the athletes that I know. (That all 3 of my friend's kids got degrees that the athletic department wanted them to get.)

Sadly, this is no surprise.

When was the last time you heard lucid replies, commentary or clear thought from a football interview (picking on football arbitrarily). Most players cannot speak clearly, cannot convey a lucid thought, cannot think, cannot perform simple responses that would otherwise be expected of a 5th grader. And... they are "communications majors". What they are is a 4 year meal ticket for the schools as they try to garner TV time and TV revenue with illiterate but athletic drones.

There are exceptions; pick almost any interview with an athlete (pick a sport) and then compare it to any interview you hear from Tiger Woods or Annika Sorenstam.

No surprise in this story. And, yes, I have forwarded it to my daughter...
