Cherish What You Have!

What's on your mind?

by Sftbll4ever » Tue Dec 09, 2008 10:18 am

I know in the lost bat bag thread a dad said he used it as a life lesson for his DD.

My DD had to learn a very tough life lesson this past Friday. She lost a friend of hers to cancer. She is having to deal with feelings I had hoped she would not have to deal with for a long time. Yesterday at school was the first day back after hearing the news and she said it was the hardest day she has ever had. The pain was too much for her sometimes.

This is also hitting me hard because I can not even image losing a child that is only 14. I cry everytime I think of the beautiful girl whom I have known of for many years. I also have a dear friend who is also fighting her own bought of cancer and my heart breaks thinking about all of this.

So, maybe during all of the bickering and such that goes on, we just sit back and really cherish what we have with us right now. It is a precious gift that can never be replaced.

Amen!

There are definately times that I put my head down, kick the dirt, and go into a depressive funk.
It can be that business is not what I want it to be, or that the world around me is does not meet my expectations. Just the news of bailouts (I mean rescues), lay-offs, foreclosures, hunger, homeless, sickness, war, global warming, and to be current corrupt polititians, is enough to make me get the doom & gloom thing going.

But then I stop and think.
I have been married to a wonderful woman for 25 years, and have three beautiful daughters.
All three girls have played, or are still playing softball, one in college, and one who could be on the same course. I have played the part of parent, league official, travel ball coach, high school coach. These four women are my life. They are stuck with me, and I am blessed to have them in my world. No matter what crosses our life path, We have each other. I would not change a thing on the course we have taken, or the sacrafices we have made. I definately feel pain for any family similar to ours, who loose one due to sickness, or accident.

I thank the Lord for family, and health.
God Bless those who have lost those close to them.

Amen:

There are times in this world when we think we have it so bad. We should all sit back and appreciate what we have, especially during this time of the year. A time of thanks, remembrance and family & friends. Our family lost a child 6 years ago today, and our lives have never been the same and never will be, but still we are thankful for time we had with her, we are thankful for our friends, we are thankful for our youngest daughter who is our ROCK. If there is one thing I have learned over the past 6 years is NEVER take anything for granted and ALWAYS be thankful for what you do have in your life.

The other night my girl's basketball team was getting beaten by a team so much better than us. It was getting rubbed in 48-3 and so, I took another time out to try to help my girls break the press. I was smiling. One of the girls asked why I was smiling. I told her, "because I get to spend this evening with you and you are learning so much about life."

I've coached for a long time and have spoken at more funerals for my players than I'd have ever thought of when I first began so many years ago. Enjoy this time. It's not about winning games. It's about winning kids! Keep that in mind and you'll be fine. I simply look around my classroom at the pictures of teams from a couple of decades and I realize that I'm the most blessed person on the face of this good earth. Take care!

I hope the kids you teach know how fortunate they are to have a teacher/coach like you. Thank you for all that you do!

God bless the family of the young 14 year old girl. I know what it is to hear your wife and your daughter has cancer. It was our blessing that they have both survived. This is a great time for reflection, prayer and being grateful for what we have.
