What's on your mind?

Good for you! That's why rec sucks. I'm sure the Baby Blue Angels are looking for a coach at 18U.

Dusty & Donnie ...

Yes sir e bob ... ya gotta love those moments in REC when they happen ... I like to think that the accomplishments some of those goofy gals have will stick with them ... I know they do me!

Another rec tournament story comes to mind. My older DD is not athletic in any sense of the word, but she did play rec softball. Her last year, she played on one of the better rec teams in the county, so she was the last batter, naturally. During the county rec tournament, the team was in a tight game, with two outs and a runner on base. If only they could get to the top of the batting order they would have a chance to win. But my DD had to bat first, and the only way she ever got on base was by a walk. So one of the coaches takes her behind the dugout and teaches her how to bunt on the spot. She goes to the plate and lays down the most beautiful bunt down the 3rd base line you have ever seen, and makes it to first. The opposing team acted like they had never seen someone bunt the ball before. The opposing team parents were stunned as well, and I swear I heard one of the parents say, "No one ever bunts in this league!" Our dugout goes nuts. The top of the order comes up and DD even makes it home to score a run. Our team advanced, but unfortunately, they didn't win the championship.

And DD never played softball again. "I'm not any good, Dad," she said. "But you're the county bunt specialist!" I tried to convince her. But younger DD was coming up the ranks and was already showing that she was the athletic one in the family, so sibling rivalry won out.

I'm letting DD play rec this spring as she does not play softball for her high school. She will definitely not pitch but may decide to Catch or play SS, positions she normally does not get to play. She wanted to keep in some sort of game situation and have live batting practice while her TB team is quiescent for High School Softball season.

She does not play for her High School because in Grade 9 she was on a 14U TB team that was still playing in the spring as almost all players were still in grade 8. The High school coach demanded no other softball teams and she did not want to leave her TB team. She does other High School Sports instead.

Luckily our local rec league is fairly high level. Also we have made many friends through rec softball.
