Dana Housley Memorial Scholarship

On May 23nd, 2015, California Thunder 15 year old 1st baseman Dana Housley suffered a brain aneurysm in a tie breaker situation while in the batter’s box with the game on the line. There is no other place Dana Housley would have preferred to be. Dana’s story and photos prompted a worldwide outpouring of support. Dana passed on May 27th, 2015 and was laid to rest on June 5th, 2015 wearing her #21 California Thunder uniform.

The following scholarship is being offered to a candidate who demonstrates Dana Housley’s passion, work ethic and respect for the game of softball. Dana is remembered as an intelligent young lady with an electric personality that stole the hearts of anyone who crossed her path. She loved her sport of softball and worked extremely hard to excel at playing a great 1st base. There wasn’t much else that mattered to Dana except family, school, softball and friends. She was purely genuine! How will you honor our Perfect Angel and #PlayforDana?

Dana Housley Memorial Scholarship (up to $2500):

This scholarship will be offered to a senior, in good standing having graduated or is graduating from high school during the year of application. The athlete must not be receiving a full ride scholarship from any other organization.

Qualifications are as follows:

1. A typed letter stating personal ambitions and goals that are exemplary of Dana Housley as described in the aforementioned statement (Maximum 2 pages).
2. Two letters of recommendations. One from your school and one from sources other than family.
3. A G.P.A. minimum of 3.3 (include a copy of transcripts, does not have to be official).
4. Have been an athlete on any travel softball team at the time of application and the summer prior to enrolling in college.
5. List of community service awards, honors and achievements.

*** Note: A player profile or resume will suffice for requirements 4 and 5 and your contact information.

No Awards will be granted to recipients if the receipt of such award is not allowed in conjunction with any other forms of financial aid the recipient may be entitled to receive.

Awarding and future funding of any grant through this program is entirely dependent upon the generation of net proceeds as a result of California Thunder fundraising.

Application Deadline is July 27th, 2016. Awards will be announced on August 6th, 2016.
