Boys at the ball park

As my DD gets older I am seeing more and more boys at the ball park. She even thinks it's odd because she has always been told she'd be punished for it, by her coaches. Well he wanted to come to her last tourney of the season, I said yes, and he came. She played better, but i still don't like it. Any thoughts?

OMG, you should see them when boys are watching at the batting cage, they swing outta there shoes, and an easy 2 mph if some boys show up while pitching practice is going on! I make sure they all know that I always have a real sharp knife in my pocket!

Though to be real honest, younger dd's bf is a handy young man. I grounded her a few days ago for skipping our pitching work out by falling asleep when she got home from school, she then told me there was no way she was pitching the next day, because it was her birthday. I said, I had no problem with her not pitching on her birthday, but no one was coming over for her party and she wasnt going anywhere until she pitched.

He did come over the next day, but he went to where her glove was and told her to go pitch, he then sat at out there in the sun and watched her do her workout. Then next day, she came and found me and said ' Dad, lets pitch.' Just like the old days.

Sure wish they stay lil girls forever I remember last year at So Cal ASA states. One of the girl’s boyfriends showed up with posters and screamed her name every chance he got. Her coach was very upset This past season I went to another game where another boyfriend watched his girlfriend play. He clapped and cheered for her (one of her best games ever). He was very respectful.

DD's HS boyfriend was great. He was at every game for 3 seasons and carried everything that needed packed around. At one point he even picked up a glove and caught during fungo.

As long as DD is not goofing around because BF is there, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

When I played, most of my teammates were dating each other ........

First,I don't think it is anybodys business if your daughters boyfriend comes to her games ,If your okay with it then it is not the coaches or anybody elses business.If he acts like an idiot or it distracting to your daughter you take care of it .
Also,I hope donnie s. was joking about his daughters birthday if he was't his DD is on her way to be one of the 60% of all feamale athletes who quit playing sports at 15yrs old and then 20 percent within a year,Remember if you want your DD playing Gold and or College softball remember it is a marathon to get there not a sprint.f you deprive your DD of dances , sleepovers ,parties ,boyfriends, ect. odds are she will become one a statistic.
Remember if you are trying to make your DD the top 10,12 ,14, softball player in the nation you know what she gets next year a BIRTHDAY and gets to move up. If your DD tries to become the best 15,16,17 she gets to play gold and if she is good enough talent wise she gets to play in college. So let your DD enjoy growing up while she is playing softball not the other way around.

You are so very right about letting the girls have fun and enjoy being teenagers. But I wasnt kidding about the practice - and she was grounded until she did her practice, she was mad for about 20 minutes and then we practiced. It was a coincidence that it also was her birthday.

Special circumstance = She is now in high school and I was told she was working at school for the last 5 weeks with the high school pitching coach - I didnt not want to 'over-use injury her to death' and so I just relied on that she would get her pitching work done at school - She pitched her two worst tournaments the last two weekends that she has pitched in her life (14 walks in 6 games, took a liner from a meatball into the leg, etc. etc. ). I talked with her afterwards and found out that for whatever reasons, whatever they are doing, wasnt cutting it - so I told her, deal was off, we will continue to do our 3-4 practices a week at home after school, and until we get each days work done, she cant go anywhere. Doug Finch gave me the idea a few years ago, didnt seem to hurt his kid much.
