Does your state allow 7-8th graders to play varsity SB ?

I grew up in VA. You are allowed 4 years of Varsity eligibility. At my school 8th graders could play sports but only at the JV level.

In our part of South Carolina, if the sport is not offered in middle school then you are able to try out for the high school team. Softball, baseball, swimming, wrestling and a few more are only offered in high school.

Not in Florida. It would be a little difficult anyway, the middle schools are not near the high schools, and the middle schools get out at 3:50 and the high schools get out at 2:10.

In Iowa, the girls can play HS ball when they have completed their eighth grade year. And some do play on varsity squads.

In Florida you are allowed if you are a private school. My DD will play 6 years of varsity.

Texas does not allow 8th graders to compete in varsity spring softball. It is an urban legend that 8th graders may compete in varsity softball but sacrifice one year of eligibility if they do. The applicable rules are found in Section M (Section 400) of the UIL Constitution. Only over-age 8th graders (more than 15 years old) may compete in varsity spring softball (Section 1478).

8th graders may compete in fall high school leagues not coached by the high school coach. This actually is quite common throughout the state.
