What's on your mind?

Any one know how many games that will mean?

Why would they do that? The Olympic team can play any frickin college team/field they want!!! The HOF Tourney comes around once a year for each age group, and they can't move their primo olympic warmup games to a different location? That sucks........

I knew the Olympic Team was playing a while back, I just assumed OK City had more than 1 field to host the tournament.

I'm hoping this "shortened tournament thread" is hearsay.

RJ I will try to find what was sent to me. The USA team is playing at the Hall of Fame Stadium the same weekend so they are cutting back on games for H o F to get them all in.

I read the email and yes, they are shortening the tourament. The email sounded like they thought everyone would be so excited to see the Olympic Team play, they wouldn't care about not finishing the tournament. I am hoping that everyone writes them and tells them that this is a very bad idea. (I did) Perhaps they will change the format. Five years ago the HOF format was only 16 team with 8 qualifying. There were less than 46 games. Or, I am sure they can find other fields etc to complete the tournament and everyone would still have a chance to watch the Olympic team play once.

I would be willing to bet that if the Olympic team knew what they were doing, they wouldn't think it was a good idea either. Do you think they would want to play in a tournament that couldn't be completed? We are all competitive people and it is all about playing the game.

Here is email from ASA Hall of Fame:

I just wanted to send out an email concerning the 2008
12-Under ASA Hall of Fame Tournament to be played in Oklahoma City on
June 6-8, 2008. For those of you who are unaware, the USA National Team
will be in Oklahoma City during this same time. Obviously, the
opportunity to see Team USA play, as well as competing at ASA Hall of
Fame Stadium will be an amazing opportunity for those teams that qualify
and come to OKC for the event. However, due to the fact that we want
all the teams to be able to fully enjoy this wonderful opportunity and
optimize both the time they have to play their games and the time they
have to enjoy Team USA in their pre-Olympic tour, we will not be playing
the 12-Under ASA Hall of Fame Tournament out in its entirety. Once we
have arrived at our 8 teams who earn a berth to the National
Championship we will conclude the tournament. I have attached the
information packet that we will be sending out to the 12-Under teams
that qualify for this prestigious event, so that you can all be informed
of what your teams should expect when they qualify for the 2008 12-Under
ASA Hall of Fame Tournament.

Sincerely,
magictch

Jeez, quite a spin they put on things...so the participating teams, that have looked forward to this tournament for the last few months, now must be content to get their berth. but as a bonus, they get to see team USA play...how are they supposed to talk trash, brag, etc, if they can't produce a clear cut winner?
I can already hear the comments afterwards...
"Yeah, well, we earned our berth better than you guys did!"

I'm pretty sure the OKC Hall of Fame facility is a 4 field complex. What they are doing is not running games on the other 3 fields while the Olympic Game is being prepared for and played to "give the players the opportunity" to see the Olympic Team. I don't like the idea of taking games away from the 12U teams that have traveled there to play in this qualifier, especially since most of them will have or have had an opportunity to see the Olympic team play near the home. Bad move ASA.
