How fast is fast in 12U???

What's on your mind?

by Killer Rabbit » Tue Jul 22, 2008 2:29 pm

If you're talking about 12U in Park City, then it was my DD. She's pretty consistent @ around 58 - 60. The 64 was an anomaly. Fastest before was a 62. I was just as cynical as everyone else. Sometimes things just line up. Then again she is a 12 year old and is just as likely to throw in the lower to mid 50's if she's not feeling good. Sorry to be one of those dads. I won't bring it up again. To the cornfield with me! Cabbies right, the 64 was not a strike.
Ice cream?! When the f**k did we get ice cream?!

yeah that kid throws smoke. If I remember that 64 pitch, it was high off the top of the target. Maybe why it got the higher reading. Either way, she throws hard. Well deserved pat on the back. Next time....corn field lol
It's better to keep your mouth shut and look like you're stupid......
than to open it and remove all doubt.

It's not bragging if you're asked a direct question. He's not pulling those numbers out of his a$$...about 500 people watched her pitch. Now start telling us about her 30 homers ( remember that thread? ) and it's another story. ;)

DD (12U) played in over 100 games this year and probably saw 3 pitchers throw 55+ and one of them was a 14U. "Average" for a fast 12U w/b (IMHO) right around that 55 mph mark with a couple of different fastballs and an effective changeup (add in another pitch with movenment and you're talking "top-shelf").

Ha, once again.. many in dream land about average 12U speeds.

high / Low 50s.. little discernible spin/movement.. few pitches distinctive from each other.. Thats what I saw coming from the Cal 12's. SoCal and Norcal
ASA, NCAA, NFHS

There are obviously girls who throw harder then others, we all know of a 12 year old who has hit 60 before, but an AVERAGE SPEED for 12 year olds' velocities is nowhere near 60, average D1 pitchers only throw low 60s (61-64). Now, of course there are many who are mid-upper 60s and a few who hit 70+, but AVERAGE is the key word. I have clocked hundreds of pitchers this summer and even at Gold Qualifiers very few are consistantly in the 60s, most are 58-61. Just look at the results from all the camps including NFCA.

Number of pitchers who were clocked at 60+ at Summer Camps
Fireworks Camp: 35 out of 140 pitchers
Las Vegas Camp: 46 out of 190 pitchers

And that includes girls who only hit 60 one time, many were high 50s but happened to hit 60 one time.

I mean, if any of you actually have a 12 year old throwing 60-63 with movement and she can throw strikes with more then one pitch, call me and I'll make sure she has a place to play the next 6 years and she will be seen by all the top coaches.

If you have a Pole barn she could probably start this year!! :D sorry, couldn't resist...

I have radared several pitchers at 12U throwing 51-55 in B level tournies. I have also seen A level pitchers throwing 57-58 with a couple peaking over 60 (yes that is not the normal), sorry maybe thats not close enough to 60. The 57-58 is not common.

I have been in C tournies where 12U pitchers were throwing 40-45, there was one throwing about 35, oh that was my DD :o

I believe the original question was " How fast is fast in 12U???" I believe 57-58 is pretty fast for 12U

Thank you all - definitely answered my question!

My dd consistently threw 49-52 at USFA 10UB nationals last week. We are looking forward to 12U!
