Kids were texting in the dugout.

What's on your mind?

Our DD's school board does not allow the use of electronic communication devices, pda's, camera's etc. etc. on/at or during school time or school events. NADA, nope, it will be gone. Even if students or teachers are off on a field trip, they have to request special permission to have a camera. If you gotta call your Mama, go to the pay phone. This goes for the teaching staff as well. The device cannot be visible at anytime.

Can't believe any coach even if it's house league would permit this to occur. You want to text, text me a 2500 word essay on why it's inappropriate to WASTE MY TIME! When you're at the diamond your on the coaches time. You don't like it QUIT!

My teams rule is "NO CELL PHONES" in the dugout... Practice or games ... 1st offence is 5 laps and I don't know what the 2nd offence is yet because it hasn't happened ... yet ... 3 years ago, in between the later innings of the first game of a double header, one of my 18u gals is in tears ... I ask her if she is hurt ... what's wrong ? Sniveling and sobbing she tells me that her boyfriend was on his way to the game and got pulled over by the police ... and arrested ! .... I gave her a hug, told a gal off the bench to go to the ladies room with her and get her calmed down and cleaned up ... they returned after the 1st game had ended ... I asked her if she was ok and would she be able to play the 2nd game ... after hearing she was better I asked her if she would like to run her 5 laps now or after the game ... she asked for what ?... and I asked her how she found out about her boyfriend as she started her laps ... LMAO ... .

"If you gotta call your Mama, go to the pay phone."

WHAT? where do you live that there are still pay phones ? Bedrock ? I'm in Lynchburg Va. , and I think I know where there is one pay phone in the entire city ... and the last time I tried to use a pay phone ( 6 or 7 years ago in MT. Airy NC ) I couldn't put money in it unless it was a local call ... the only way to dial long distance was with a calling card  which I did not have ... All my Parents know the rules about no cell phones and if they are not at the field they know that they shouldn't expect to here from their daughters until after or in between games ...

I feel his pain ...

GIMNEPIWO - The pay phone comment was related to the girls on the high school softball team needing to use the phone. Don't they have pay phones at your high schools?

Just in case your lost around town and or ran out of battery juice on your cellphone, here's a list of pay phones for you in Lynchburgh VA.

http://www.payphone-project.com/numbers ... LYNCHBURG/

804-237-9871 LYNCHBURG CITY SCHOOLS
804-528-9614 HOLY CROSS HIGH SCHOOL -2125 LANGHORNE RD

Do you need more? Let me know and I'd be happy to look some more up for you.

Make a rule, don't enforce it, live with the results. Phone girl is simply bullying the coach.

Put her on the bench and have her sit. All game, every game. If she asks why, tell her.

Her actions are disrespectful to the coach and the other players. This is the type of self centered brat that will go to high school and be shocked into reality, then whine and complain about "why me..." and the usual line of crap.

Bench her. When the parents complain, ask them to take her phone before warm-ups, returning it after the game.

Hold a phone; ride the pine. It's the law.

( Ouch! , how's the fastpitch game there ? , stay safe !)

LMAO ! ... good one, thanks ! ... BUT, if I'm not gonna allow cell phones in the dugout, I'm sure not going to allow lap-tops to check the website as to where there might be a pay phone ! And as far as there being a pay phone in the HS, I'm not sure if there is in fact a working payphone there and my DD's are still asleep ...

Of the 10 phones listed on your website under Lynchburg Va. ; Only 5 were actually in Lynchburg and the closest was a 3 or 4 mile hike from the closest HS ( If they are gonna walk that far they might as well just walk home ) ... One was actually a 3.5 hour drive away in Virginia Beach ...( I'll assume if they use that phone that they don't need a ride home from the field LOL! ) ... interestingly enough, the pay phone I know about was not listed, so I'm sure there are more owned by independent companies ...

I think we all agree that the Cell Phones have no place in the dugout or on the field of play ( where I have seen a BU checking his in between pitches ) ... but I disagreed with one previous reply by fasterpitch 92710:
"When the parents complain, ask them to take her phone before warm-ups, returning it after the game."

Fasterpitch, I have always told my gals that if they are sick, going to miss a practice or game or tourny, have a question, want to try a different position etc etc etc . ... that THEY should call me, that THEY should ask me, not their parents ! Make them responsible for themselves and their actions ( I had one mother offer to run her DD's laps for forgot cleats, I let her join in but didn't reduce the laps when she took the blame LOL )... If you make the rule of "NO CELL PHONES" and the parents have to enforce it ... you are still left with the same problem of having a player who has no respect for you, the rules or their team ... give the man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime, right?
