Why did your DD leave a team?

What's on your mind?

But do EVERYONE a favor and handle the situation with some maturity.

Talk privately with the old coach before anyone else hears you're leaving.
Show a little class on the way out and make sure all your committments to the team are taken care of (e.g. unpaid dues, return team gear).
Don't leave your old team and teamates hanging, pick the right time to leave and that isn't necessarily when it is most convenient for you.
No matter what your reasons are, the only reason you give anyone else is that it wasn't a good fit for your daughter.

Amen to that. I had one Dad tell me he was having sensitive surgery and his DD was just going to concentrate on basketball for the fall. Two weeks later I saw her pitching for another team. The truth will always serve you well.

#1- I decided to stop managing the team at end of year.

#2- Daughter didnt respond well to coach and decided she didnt want to play softball if she had to stay on the team. So needless to say we found her another team. She is happy now and I think it was the best decision for all involved, I liked the coach but am not the one playing so honored her wishes.

On another note this past weekend I saw a kid who has been on 10 or so teams since 1st year 10's, how many changes are too. Are most managers willing to look the other way for a decent player IMO this girls is a good player but not great??

I know a girl like that she's been on at least 7-8 teams since 10U she's 14U now. Sounds like the same girl was she at the chino hills tournament?

Great advice!!!

At the end of each season I give all the parent a set date (before next open try-out) if they can let me know one way or other, no questions asked if they prefer (just let me know it wasn't a good fit). Had one parent I suspected was leaving, never said anything, so wasn't sure what was going to happen. I am talking to another coach I know, he tells me that she is on his team now. He felt a little akward to be the one to let me know.

After that I was a little upset about the situation, all they had to do was say thanks but we need to move on.

Most players move because their parents overestimated their DD's relative talent level and they need to find a team with a lower talent level to move to in order to find playing time. Generally, the coach is blamed for his/her inability to recognize DD's obvious talents and for playing daddy ball because the coach's DD is better than the player who is leaving. This is the case in about 98% of player movement.

Sam, you are true to a point. Since my DD was 12 I gave her the choice of what she wanted to do. She tried out and played for a few teams when she was younger and was happy with those teams. The last team she was on was not developing and was getting worst. She was clearly one of the better players on the team. She informed the coach that she would be looking for a new team. She has found a team that she likes and hope to stay with for the next couple of years. I have asked my DD if she is happy with the team and that all that matters to me. I feel that if your kid wants to be on the field they need to work at it. Some kids get kicked to the curb with the Daddy Ball crap because the coach is to blind to see other talent or afraid to admitt that their DD is not that good. In some cases the talent on the bench is better that the coaches DD or original players. Then I can see those parents getting fed up but how does there DD feel about the issue, is what they need to be asking. If she is happy with the team, the team, the team, then why leave? When parents realize that their child will not always be a starter, teams will be alot better. Just wait until they get to HS and College they will really see the differance.

Thanks for the completely arrogant and unnecessary comment.

My DD got to a point that I had to force her to go to practice (Me saying, "You have 5 minutes to get ready") Her saying can't we go out for pizza instead. It was no longer fun for her(or me) and as a family we thought it was time to go.

I always find it funny how the "my pond is bigger than your pond" crowd doesn't seem to get that the entire FP softball universe barely rises above the level of a puddle. Spare me the "not here in __ replies".
