Last tournament, went to the plate for the coachs meeting to start the game, two of the players from the other team came for that team, both of these little darlings were taller than me, I'm 6.1. I said 'Rule sheet local tournament rules says "Any players taller than opposing coach are disqualified.", I just got it from the TD."
One of them says 'In your dreams, pop.'

DH was at the JO Classic in Vegas last year. Same thing, went to the plate for the coaches meeting and they were taller than him too. Shortest player on the team was 5'8". Good Times!!!

Somebody's gotta ask, is this her real honest to goodness birth certificate name? I wonder if she knows Debbie Downer.

Actually, they changed the name from her original birth certificate to Debbie....it was originally "Impending"......

In So Cal, they are playing volleyball....

From the Southern California Volleyball Association website: the SCVA expects approximately 220 18U, 240 16U, 160 15U, 280 14U, and 120 12U GIRLS Club teams for the 2009 season. At 10 girls per team, that's more than 10,000 kids playing the volleyball equivalent of TB

And some play both. Though I must confess my DD got really nervous during club VB tournaments last year worrying about spraining an ankle (landing on another girl's foot) in the middle of the High School SB season her team was having. She dreamed she sprained an ankle and let her whole team down. She ended up spraining it after a HS Softball game in a post game celebration dogpile. :(

And club Volleyball is really expensive! 4-5k each kid for about a 7 month season! (But no fundraising ;) )

Debbie Doom played for UCLA in the early to mid 80's. 3 wins in WCWS championship games. Still one of my all time favorite female pitchers, even without a hard stride.

Then someone figured out that you don't have to be an athlete to use your long arms to throw a pitch really hard, or rebound a basketball or take three steps jump and hit a volleyball. Where you notice how most of those tall girls are still spazzes is when the pitcher charges that bunt or the BBall center tries to dribble in the open court or when the Middle Blocker tries to set a pass when the setter trips. It is funny as hell to see. ;) How many of those pitchers you mentioned have been competitive in other sports where size was not the main prerequisite?

The number of tall girls who are really athletic is still very small though. Think Venus Williams or some of the forwards in the WNBA. Some OHs in Volleyball are extremely athletic like Logan Tom, and soccer players like Abbi Wambach.

That is the reason that an athletic girl of 5'9" can still dominate so many different sports.

Sounds to me like your upset at the fact "you" have to look up to the catcher on DD's TB team...lol

Hey Watcher. I wasn't talking about YOUR kid. Just all the others.

Besides I just wish mine had grown a few more inches. I used to think she was tall when she was younger. At least she isn't short. Some day she might catch up to her mom. ;)
