I have a Twitter account and still can't find a purpose. I am sometimes contacted by someone wanting to be a friend.

I put very generic info in when I registered. I didn't include a city or zip code and I made up a name.

Someone locally tweeted me (I don't know how she knew I was local). So, I looked at her post and it said "I am watching the kids, as usual." That was all.

If I need to tell a group of people something, I will e-mail or text. WIth text, most people get my message immediately. And with e-mail, I can write almost everyone.

There are teams which use twitter as a text message relay to send in game updates to those who cannot attend.

In our area the travel ball clubs all break from March - late May to allow the girls to play HS Ball without the pressure of having to choose between the two. Our organization is using Twitter as a way to send out info on how the kids are doing at their high school ball games in a fairly non invasive way. That saves on all those "how did she do last night?" phone calls and emails, plus the format forces you to give a short and sweet update vs. the longwinded version that us Dad's all like to give.
