Here is the proposal from SoCal ASA...............

So Cal ASA Gold Classification

Limit number of Gold teams to 51 for 2009

1. Criteria for becoming a Gold Team
• Teams that qualified for Gold Nationals in 2008 from PCR 14 Regional Tournament or the two Western Territory Tournaments get automatic classification as Gold for 2009. (11Teams)
• Remaining teams must qualify in one of two classification tournaments to be held each year. For 2009 first tournament will be limited to 84 teams with 24 teams qualifying, second tournament will be limited to 66 teams with 16 qualifying.
• Entries into the classification tournaments will be as follows.
1. Gold teams that participated in the 2008 PCR 14 Regional Tournament. (56)
2. Gold teams that qualified for Nationals outside of Region 14 or Western Territories. (2)
3. 18A teams that finished in the top 10 at So Cal State Championship.(Max 13)
4. 18A teams with a return Berth to Nationals from 2007. (Max 2)
5. 18A teams that qualified for 2008 Hall of Fame Qualifier in PCR 14.(Max 2)
6. 16A teams that finished in the top 10 at So Cal State Championship.(Max 13)
7. 16A teams with a return Berth to Nationals from 2007. (Max 2)
8. 16A teams that qualified for 2008 Hall of Fame Qualifier in PCR 14.(Max 2)
9. Open to all So Cal ASA teams that registered in 2008 as 18 Gold, 18U, 16U.

• Classification stays with qualifying Manager.
• Teams may enter both tournaments but once they qualify cannot play in second tournament.
• All players participating must be 2009 eligible.
• All Managers and Coaches must be 2009 Registered and Background checked to participate. ASA ID cards must be displayed at all times
• All Players must be 2009 Registered to participate.

That is some big time criteria to play gold. Drive over the hill and you dont hardly even have to sew gold on your uniform and you can call yourself gold.

Now if only the umpires would follow suit Just Kidding Wade- I talked to you last weekend through the backstop you told me our team under achieved at Nat'ls. I wanted to tell you that getting to Nat'ls was in itself a great achievement with all the fine umpiring we had to overcome! Looking forward to seeing you at Arnaiz- I hope you get one of our games, it will be fun!

I guess that is a point of difference in opinion that we will never convince each other to change.
I would love to go play in a PGA golf tournament because even last place makes good money. However, I have not earned the right to be there simply because I call myself a golfer.

If you are a professional golfer, you can go to Q School and try to qualify.

The Region 14 Plan wouldn't even allow a team to play in a qualifier.

Sorry, you just can’t seem to accept this change. In my original post, I think the problem statement (which you can’t seem to accept) was outlined in the message from the GSSA announcement. You may not see this as a problem, but I would say that most who have posted would all agree to the over population and watered down Gold program in Ca. My opinion is that the overall integrity of the Gold program has diminished from years past ~ I’ve been involved +8 years.

Limiting the number of Gold teams will return Gold to the Elite status it used to be. You should have to earn your way to Gold, not just say you are Gold. Only the very top kids will make the gold teams and the others will find either an 18U team, or a 16U team. As a result, Gold will benefit, 18’s will be more competitive, as will 16’s.

The girls will be fine and still recruited at each level, just as they were before.

Now really, what is this really all about....being Gold? Does this mean its all about not being able to attact the best players and parents won't go to your tryouts? Does it mean because your not on a Gold team you won't be seen by Colleges?

The best should be in Gold, most of these players on the Gold teams will already have given a verbal, they will be the ones to rise to the Gold level...these players already have been seen by the schools. College Coaches don't go to Nationals , only a few...very few.

Schools want to see teams win, not go home 2 and out, they want to see players compete, think we will be seeing good ball all around now, give it a chance.

Learn to read. If all you are worried about is 100 teams in a qualifier, they could reduce the number of teams they accept for that qualifier.

The girls were never recruited from 18A.

The 64 teams that qualify for ASA Nationals are not watered down.

There are low, mid, and high level teams in each age category. ASA qualifying procedures seperate the elite teams, though the Gold qualifying does it best of all the divisions.

There is no problem and Gold was "elite" when Bruder was winning championships. Due to the explosion of teams at the lower divisions, there are more girls that can play at a very high level. It would solve the entire problem if ASA would remove the Gold Division and just have an 18U division....run the qualifying like they do every other division.

God knows that there are a lot more college scouts at 18 Gold Nationals than are at 18A Nationals.

This is about the recruiting season and having the opportunity to play against other 18 Gold competition. They play 5 games in these tournaments...in Colorado they play at least 6 games.

If your answer is not "the players" then the change is being made for absolutely no reason.

wrong,, mine was recruited at 18U seven years ago and played D1.. Most were back then..
