Coach Fired after 100-0 Girls BB Win

What's on your mind?

by Trophy Hunter » Mon Jan 26, 2009 4:35 pm

No, they won 44-37 vs. Breckenridge on Dec 11. If the 100 point loss counts as a win it will be the 2nd this season. one more than last year.
Ladies, if a man tells you he will fix it, he will fix it. There is no reason to remind him about it every six months.

SAM,

no where does it say they were pressing. Are you guessing they were pressing by the score.

Pressing. Not pressing. Fired. Not fired. I don't care about these people or any of their affairs.

These BUTT-KICKINGS will NEVER stop. Why argue over it? Wasn't it like 20yrs ago that WNBA player Lisa Leslie broke Cheryl Miller's PHENOMENAL 100pts in a girls high school BB game performance???!!! OOOOOOO..wow..huh?! Actually no...why? LISA LESLIE SCORED THE 100PTS BY HALFTIME!! YES, THAT'S RIGHT, HALFTIME FOLKS!! I think she did it versus a Torrance, CA area school. What did that Coach decide to do? His team LEFT AT HALFTIME!! Why didn't this coach just do the same?? Lisa Leslies coach wasn't fired for allowing his future 6'-5" Women's BB Hall of Famer from attempting to break the record! Should we scold your DD when they pitch a perfect game? Strikeout too many? Hit TOO MANY HOMERUNS!! The school that took the DRUBBING should obviously stick to anything else besides sports! Budgets are tight, disband the girls BB program, that's the ONLY answer. JMHO.

Well, the BB program is designed to add athletics to a curriculum for special needs kids.. which is actually what this school sticks too. I'm sure their bb program has other goals than a singular focus on winning; in fact, its not those players that are complaining about this drubbing you are crowing about. The idea, one that is lost on you obviously, is that sports can help kids other ways, even if they lose. I believe that as well and find athletics for young people to be very important, especially in this day and age. I dont believe you have any knowledge whatsoever of their budgeting, as a private school; so I'm not sure you have a point there.

I wasnt sure I had an opinion about whether or not firing was in order until the past few minutes when I had a epiphany. Suddenly, I have an idea of the type of attitude involved with beating up a school of special needs kids 100-0.. and that coach definately needed to go.

In socal they now make High School coaches take a NFHS online exam. Its six hours long and expresses over and over that HS sports are about what they call, "Teachable Moments", not about winning. There may be alot of things people dont agree with when it comes to High School sports but its just because you are misinformed. The School Board has athletic programs for different reasons than the reason your kids play travel ball. Its the Coaches job to try and balance his desire to compete and win while keeping the principal off the A.D.'s back.

Well... Verdade, You made some good points and then fell off the wagon and obviously hit your head ... As Wade points out ... playing sports is not just about winning ... there are many lessons to learn from both sides of the win/lose scenario ... and saying that because a school, or team loses they "should stick to anything else besides sports!" I don't even know what to say ... maybe when you reread what you posted even you will think you're as big an as*hole as I do right now ...

The day that I feel the need to beat a special needs team by 100 points, I deserve whatever I have coming.

Why not shoot left handed? Pass the ball to the other team, once in awhile?

It's like playing checkers with a 3 YO, you're not trying to humiliate him.

Remember the young man that was the BB teams manager and he suited up and made all of those 3 pointers. Now, that was a great thing.

Often times when you have a lopsided game such as this one, the coaches & refs will agree to have a running clock. That eases the pain a bit. Or, the coach of the winning team will require his/her players to pass the ball a minimum of XX times before shooting. Or, the coach will tell his players that only one person can shoot the ball (most of the time it's a bench player that has not scored many points in the season). Or, all of the above. There are many ways to handle this situation --- the coach deserved to get fired.

They have short attention spans and dyslexia I don't know about you but that pretty much summed up most kids I knew when I was in high school particularly the athletes we just didn't have drugs or a name for it. :D The tone of a few posts have approached the speculation that these kids are handicapped which is by no means the case.
