MLB had a list of banned substances during the period in question. Steroids were not on that list, and it was not an oversight. Leaving the most obvious performance enhancing substance off that list was clearly tacit approval for it's use.

It wasn't "against the rules", it was, however, illegal. But I guess MLB rules trump federal and state law.

Steroids are not illegal. If they were, just about, if not, everyone on this site would be guilty. For all we know, some quack may have written a script making it quite legal in many states.

How much money do you suppose Congress spent so far by commissioning the Mitchell Report, going after Bonds, Clements, A-Rod, Clements buddy Pettitte, Grimsley, ect.?

Is that a good use of time or money? Why is cleaning up MLB Congress' job and not the Commissioner's? If the substances were not illegal when they were used, why do we care now?

I know MLB is more stat driven than other professional sports, however Mr. Ed has done left the barn. It's a little late to close the barn door now on the records that are being broken.

I agree that Bud Selig makes the skin crawl...There is something about that guy that makes me completely distrust him.

What surprises me is that more players are not more infuriated by steroid abusers. They are essentially stealing from their co-workers by cheating.

It has also tainted the numbers on innocent victims of the steroid era...How many guys have benefited by hitting and getting on base in front of these freaks. In a stat driven sport, this is the ultimate crime.

Shame the game my ass. Maybe if they'd have BOTHERED to have a RULE (until recently) against steroid use like the NFL I'd listen to that. I'm going to power puke if I have to hear about the "purity of the game" one more time. The old timers cheated their asses off too. Greenies have been rampant in MLB for decades and were only just recently banned. Gaylord Perry is in the HOF and has since admitted he cheated his way to most of those wins doctoring the ball.

Tainted numbers? Give me a bucket. Hank Aaron may not have used anything (probably used greenies though) but he wasn't facing 'roid monkey pitchers like Gagne and Roger Clemons, who may have gotten even MORE benefit from the performance enhancers since recovery time is a much bigger deal at that position.

Besides if it's true that A-Rod only used the drugs for 3 years, he won 2 MVPs outside those years and his numbers are still staggering.

Tell you what. The sad misguided purists can go ahead and lop off 10 to 12 home runs a year off those three years so you can sleep at night and he'll still pass Bonds and Aaron..............and choke in the playoffs.

Cheating of any kind that can be gotten away with has been woven into the fabric of this sport for a century. "Purity of the game" is not only a myth, it's an oxymoron.

Why to you think baseball was dumped from the Olympics? Because even if the MLB allowed the players to go, they wouldn't get past the drug test and they knew it.
