FRESNO, Calif. - While traveling the world with the Canadian National Team to prepare for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, junior All-American pitcher Robin Mackin is redshirting this season and will return to the Bulldog lineup in 2009. Though she won't don a Fresno State uniform this season, Mackin wanted a way to keep in touch with her teammates and the Bulldog faithful.

Every Monday, Mackin will post a new blog at http://www.gobulldogs.com. She will tell stories of her previous week on the road with the Canadian National Team, the places she has been, people she has met, and things she has learned along the way. Below is Mackin's first entry.

ABC 30 out of Fresno is reporting she's not coming back with the headline of "No Longer a Bulldog". It was a very short article, no info as to why.

I believe Scott's estimate was players who verbal during their sophomore year.

I'm aware of only 7 right now. There may be more of course.

I should have distinquished between during the sophmore year and prior to starting the junior year. My kid got offers only during the summer between school sessions. That seemed to be when interested colleges were most actively pursuing her and wanted a commitment.

You all covered this really well. just my 2 cents. you are correct after july 1st you can commit and schools CAN talk to you as a junior going on your senior year. There is a story about 4 years old of a girl out of SO Cal that was a 4.0 student who never played on a travel team or went to showcase tourneys, she had a huge senior year and made 1st team and wanted to go to Southern Cal, they said sorry we would love to have you as a walk on but we have already offered all of our scholorships out for your class last year when your competiion where juniors going on there senior years. its not the same as when we played sports and you waited. now waiting can cost you

What a shame . . . you should check out USC's website and see whether she decided to walk on and made their team. I hear they are having a heck of a season!
