Choosing a school

What's on your mind?

by dallasfungo » Mon Sep 08, 2008 10:07 pm

Hmmmm, let me think. Go to Princeton, win the Ivy League Championship, but lose to UMass and Lehigh in the regionals, then graduate with a degree from....Princeton. Or go to Lousiana-Lafayette, lose to Alabama in the 2nd round of the WCWS, then graduate with a degree from...Louisana-Lafayette. Quite a conundrum.
[i]Wow, a "full ride" at Bugtustle State College to play softball. Let me know how that degree looks on the resume.

Dallas Fungo: I like that logic...the best part is: Go to Princeton, play for Princeton - competing in the Regionals is just gravy.....the Ivy League piece of paper at the end of 4 years is what it's all about - these girls have to be student/athletes in order to be accepted into these schools and compete in the Ivy League programs.

Princeton doesn't give athletic scholarships.

Go to Northwestern, come in 7th at the WCWS, graduate with a degree from Northwestern.

No conundrum.

- nice area if you like Chicago, except that... you....

Touche. However it's not exactly toasty at Princeton either (see post I was responding to)

You are absolutely correct. You do, however, need to carry your nose just a bit higher at Princeton, have "proper" credentials, an established family social aura, have your underwear ironed correctly and be able to pee in the direciton of Yale or Harvard. This will be a culture shock for many on the roster since they have loaded up from Kalifornia, like, dude, like awesome, like... I didn't see, like, that coming... like... like....

Concur. Also you're forbidden to be better than average at Softball. Blue chip players with 2250 SAT's are banished to Stanford.

Yes, but going to Stanford has it's drawbacks
- excellent education
- nice stadium
- superb weather
- eucalpytus groves for tailgating
- formal wear that mandates flip-flops and shorts
- no one sitting in trees
- free spectator entry into the softball games
- new football stadium and a football team that, well.... ... a new football stadium...

hummm... where was I going with this... beats me. Doesn't matter. I can't afford to send my daughter there soooooo....

I can. But mine's stupid and doesn't have the softball skills to break the starting lineup
at Azuza Pacific. But that's 8 years away. With hard work, steriods and some stolen SAT tests, she has an outside shot at being a courtesy runner at Hofstra.
