Kids were texting in the dugout.

What's on your mind?

I know in the softball universe anywhere north of O.C. is considered Nor Cal... but I'm still far enough south to be a Dodger fan. :D
Don't worry about tomorrow. You did that yesterday.

No offence Beccas_Mom, I would have to disagree only in the way that embarrasing a player in front of the team and/or parent may be much more detrimental. I think GIMNEPIWO has a very valid point.

"I have always told my gals that if they are sick, going to miss a practice or game or tourny, have a question, want to try a different position etc etc etc . ... that THEY should call me, that THEY should ask me, not their parents ! Make them responsible for themselves and their actions"

Our DD's Coach from the age of 10U always told the girls that he didn't talk to parents he only talked to the girls. So if you where going to be late because, Mom, Dad was late from work or you could not make a practice, you better be picking up the phone yourself and calling me to tell me. If you forgot your equipment, it was your responsibility not Mom or Dad. This is true character building. I don't even think that any of his girls now would even attempt to pull out a cell phone in the dugout. They all know they would get a what for and be riding the pine for a little while.

That's what I'm saying !

"Yeah teenagers never ignored their parents back in our day. "

Of course we did. Testing authority is ALL part of growing up. When you tested authority as a teenager did your parents stay on your butt or start shifting responsibility and making excuses for you as is often the case these days ? ...Thus allowing you to further ignore authority and not be responsible for your own actions; blaming it on the Coach, the other player, the teacher, your parent or society ( I'm going to file a suit because my coffee was hot and I burnt my tongue ) ? ... eh, we're getting into another topic all together here, sorry. ... <*{{{{>< , gone fishing ...

How about those cell phone bills anyway? My husband and I are on a package with DD. She has unlimited text. The bill is about $120/mo. with Verizon. They lock us in to a 2 yr. agreement every time DD upgrades her phone.

Our good news is that DD is 19 and will soon be off of our bill, but it will probably involved a $175.00 cancellation fee.

I think that it is more than making excuses. Most parents don't hold their kids accountable and give them what ever they ask for. I call it the everyone gets a trophy phenomon. When we kids you only got a trophy if you earned it. Now we don't want to damage little susie's self esteem and we have created a generation of self absorbed young adults and teens.

?????? .... And there you have it. Yes my DD's ( 5 ) ALL have Cell phones, yes they are ALL on my plan ... and yes, at the end of every month when the bill comes, I total each individual phones usage, hang it on the wall and they ALL pay their own bill ... we do have Verizon ... we had 2 consecutive months where 3 of them got hammered texting, so the only "add on" they asked for was unlimited texting, for which they all pay the additional $10 a month to have ... since there are seven of us all together it required 2 family plans, each having 700 minutes ... we have only gone over minutes twice in 6 years and that was my fault ... it is amazing how little money kids will spend when it is their own money and not yours ... or mine in this case ... what would I do if they didn't pay their bill to me? ... the same as Verizon would do to you , I'd shut off their phone ... cancellation fee ? ... again, if it's their boat they gotta row it ...

LMAO ... obviously, you weren't fishing with me ...

Yeah ... WTF is that all about ? ... Who started that crap ? Probably the same person who wants give all the kids at a birthday party a present ... WTF ? ... ITS NOT YOUR BIRTHDAY ! NO PRESENT ! When it's your birthday, YOU get the present, when it's little Suzies birthday, SHE gets the present ! ... I thought that was pretty cut and dry ! ... wheres my fishing rod ?
