What's on your mind?

About what? Their egos? Their power in ASA? My last dealings with SoCal ASA were the change to Gold qualifications and a formal complaint I made against the California Cruisers (Rosenthal) for illegally recruiting a player. They forced through Gold change....that only a few top Gold coaches wanted and one that they knew hurts the players they supposedly are volunteering for. The allowed the Cruisers to pick up their illegal recruit and took my complaint money....when they admitted I was right...but they didn't want to hurt the young lady they allowed to be illegally recruited.

The mere fact that you volunteer does not exclude you from criticism. I volunteered for over 20 years...does that mean that I did everything right....or that nobody had the right to tell me that I was wrong in doing some things? If they all quit, SoCal could form their own Metros by county. No biggy.

You will have to admit, that the SoCal ASA JO was able to increase your national berths from 3 to 12. This is a big step forward for SoCal.

I'm pretty sure more folks vote for ASA Code changes than the SoCal ASA JO Commish...Everybody got more berths into a tournament that they won't have a chance at running effectively. The other states get to run their NQ's with less SoCals coming over to compete for those berths. They are already run badly with LB teams playing 5-6 games in a day...managers abusing their pitchers' arms...their catchers' knees...what they needed to do was give SoCal a larger share of a decreased number of total berths....have all the divisions limited to 64 berths...like Gold. Why do we abuse the younger pitchers, but make sure we don't damage the ones whom have survived to pitch at the Gold level....

Sam, Tournament Directors do not hurt pitchers and catcher, single minded coaches do. Most National tournaments, you only play up to three games in a day, maybe four. If a team does not carry at least three solid pitchers and two catchers (with a third playing another position) then the Coach not the Tournament Director should be removed. You build your team for a tournament run, not live and die by one arm.

Have you ever run a large tournament? If you have been asked to join the ASA SoCal staff, why don't you try to fix from the inside instead of bashing it from the outside. Actions carry more weight than words.

I give credit to the SoCal JO to get the berths by size instead of politics. Yes, it took other votes, but it took someone to muster the votes to get what SoCal deserves.

I have questions about the pool/bracket draws. In 511.A.01 under Exceptions, it states "...qualifying pool play (providing each team with two games) shall be used to draw teams onto the ASA Official Double Elimination Bracket."

Then in 511.B.02 it says "NOTE: The double elimination bracket draw shall be done at the
completion of the pool play games, with each team drawing their position onto the double elimination bracket."

So they aren't taking the best teams in pool play and seperating them out in the brackets? It is still by a coach draw? Or am I reading too much into the bold print?

IF done as in past, at the completion of pool play, each pool will draw according to their finish in pool play and seeded by their finish in pool play.

Ha! Fool you! Only Sam could find a negative with quadrupling so cal berths and not only that, but wrap it around pitchers pitching too much.. and not only that, but blame that on So Cal leadership.

But thanks for trying.

I'm talking about ASA Nationals, Intel, so don't get your panties in a bunch. They are talking about a tournament of over 160 teams...playing two pool games and then DE....and you think a team would play a max of 3 games in a day? I have news for ya....my 14U team played 5 games on a Saturday at Western Nationals....I used three pitchers...would have used 4, but my other pitcher had hurt her arm...what if I hadn't had another pitcher....I would have been forced to play 5 games with 2 pitchers and two of the games went into ITB. This was a DE tourney with less than 60 teams.

Winners bracket teams won't play over 3 games in a day. LB teams face elimination with every game...how many #3 or even #2 pitchers do you think managers will throw on the weekend when their team's tournament life rides on every game?

I actually ran a 60 team tournament....would have taken more teams, but we didn't have a field.

I doubt the Chula Vista Mafia would let me into SoCal ASA...besides, they would likely insist that I stay off of this site...and we wouldn't want that now....would we?

Actually, Wade, Intel gave the SoCal ASA credit for the additional berths. I'm the one who said that they only have one vote as far as ASA code changes....try again.
