ASA Has Priced Itself Out of the Market

Fresno in August was the most miserable weather conditions I've ever experienced at a softball tournament. Also the worst opening cremonies I've ever seen in my life.

Just looked in at the 18u HOF qualifier being held in Midland Texas this weekend. Saw in our big state of Texas, a total of 5 teams are make the drive to hell and gone. Why not have this - lets get crazy now - in the middle of the state. I know IrishGangBanger will jump on say - well its not Saint ASA's fault (all genuflect) - but common marketing sense says 'Location, Location, Location' and Midland aint location to anywhere. No-one needs to tell me about the wonderful folks out there in Midland, I spent a lot of time in that lovely sulfer aroma wrapped metropolis, and the people out there are good as gold. Just a wild guess, but had this been in Houston, or Austin, or heck, Papalote, I bet they would have got 25-30 teams easy into this. We signed up - but decided we couldnt afford the 4.00 a gallon plus jacked up hotel prices now - for a 10 hour drive - and that was to the qualifier. Instead we get to go play a gold invitational 3 1/2 hours away, with 20 something teams, play in a very fine complex against excellent competition.

Instead of the constant whining, why not do something about it. OOoooh, do this for me. OOooooh, do that for me. What? You want me to cowboy up and do something for myself?

Seriously, get involved and solve the problem. Each region is responsible for the HOF qualifier and since Texas is it's own region, I suggest you get involved with local JO Commissioners and help them out.

For once, I appreciate what you are saying but the problem is solved. Whether people want to believe it or not, there are other venues than ASA that do get the job done.

For what its worth, I would like to see it all ASA. At a national tournament, the best organized national event I have ever been to was ASA. The biggest nastiest problem I ever saw at a national tournament was a huge storm that would have wiped out any tournament I ever saw - was at an ASA tournament and they hired a helicopter to come in and hover over and dry it off - took about 3 hours, I know that was the local community, but ASA chose wisely, in that case. Both the weakest competition and the strongest competition I have ever seen was at an ASA tournament The absolute most fun we ever had at a national tournament though was USFA in Panama City, hands down.

First few times MTR got on to correct someone about ASA (genuflect), I thought, no, not here too. But too late, MTR = IrishMafia.

Interestingly, TG on eteamz, and I think its the correct TG, seems to be using words slightly differently since the 'big east' incident - and I am not totally sure that its really him. BJ used to be the master at being the best e-detective around. But TG could be here - though hiding himself. My guess is there will be an unmistakable outburst eventually and we will know who he is.

He's not here yet....haven't read anything a genes deciding whether or not a kid will be good or not....that players with "bad" genes are wasting their time going to professional instructors to improve their woefully inadequate skill base.

Okay, I'll concede the oceanographic world defines the Gulf of Mexico as part of the Atlantic Ocean, but having lived on the gulf and East coast, I can assure you they are two different bodies of water.
