She does have a cannon. She did it again in the BS game

To set up the situation for those who didn't see it, MG was up to bat with a runner on 2, and the batter hit a hard grounder fairly deep in the 5-6 hole. So this kid lays out for it and comes up to her knees looking to make a play at 3rd. But the runner was clearly going to be safe. So she reorients her self toward 1st, still on her knees, and seems to take stock of the situation for a brief moment.

Now at this point I'm thinking that she realizes that there is no play whatsoever that can be made, so she is going to eat the ball. I mean the batter is 2/3 of the way down the line and flat-out motoring, and the girl is still on her knees well behind the baseline across the diamond.

So what does she do? She cocks back and fires to first for the out. And it wasn't even a close play. The ball looked like a riser all the way across, and was still on an upward trajectory when it was caught by 1b above her head. I swear I could hear the ball sizzling all the way there from behind the backstop. Honestly, I think there are maybe--maybe--a handful of kids that age in the country that can throw that hard from their feet. (Okay maybe that's a small overstatement, but it was damn impressive.)

I saw the play as I was at that game. That play was flat out ESPN Top 10 #1 Play of the week. Monster Player Right there!! Oh Yeah-- Note to all coaches: Do not Pitch to #42 OMG - Wind blowing in No problemo she just bombs it right into it, I think she drove herself to the tourney. Tell Stacy Nueveman I know who is taking that record of hers down.

If you are at Brookefield and ASA runs it the same way..No updated boards-fields far apart-no food for miles-no snack bar-bathrooms are on a timer and lock at 7:30 pm so if you have an 8:00 game you are out of luck (Nothing around unless you knock on someone's door)...the porta potties are a long 20-30 minute walk away off of field 3-no prep between games, etc. Poorly run tournament, in general, I thought.

I talked at length with ASA regarding many of the complaints during our 12U tournament. We (Minors Gold 95) have addressed as many of the issues as possible with the city, as well as ASA. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about the distance between the fields at the Brookefield complex. The bathrooms near field 1 have automatic computerized locks and apparently no one was made aware of that fact last weekend. We are aware of this now and should not have this problem again this weekend. The porta-potties near field 3 will be serviced Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening.

We will have a snack bar, as centrally located as possible, but as stated previously, there isn't much we can do about the distance between the fields.

We will prep the fields in between games, as allowed by the umpires.

It was my hope someone would take this week to work out some of the SNAFU's from last weekend, and I'm not at all surprised Minor's Gold is at the forefront on improving conditions.
Big props to MG for their efforts!!

p.s. Do you still need a regulation pitcher's plate on Diamond #2 at Brookfield??

The city told me that has been addressed. I, being the trusting sole that I am, will be checking that first thing Friday morning!

Us 12U ers are glad to know we were the guinea pigs for the bigger dogs. It makes me feel great about spending my team's money on the tournament. It isn't like this was the 1st tournament ASA has had. These problems shouldn't have been problems in the 1st place, regardless of where it was held. People have to use restrooms, people like to eat, and pitcher's need pitching rubbers there is something I didn't know To top it off ASA knows how many people will be there. Don't get me wrong I am glad they fixed the issues and I hope the 14U s have a better experience.

Your team doesn't need fences. You had girls hitting over the tree line into the creek at Brookfield.

What kind of car does #42 drive?

Into a 20 m.p.h. head-wind no less. But how 'bout #99, who can apparently throw it that far from her knees?

I've seen some impressive things on a softball field, but at the 12u level...that throw out she made in game 1 definitely took the cake.
