Coach Fired after 100-0 Girls BB Win

What's on your mind?

by Sam » Tue Jan 27, 2009 8:27 am

Its not about the feelings of the losing team...its about what the winning coach is teaching his young ladies at a Christian school. If the coach is teaching his kids that it is OK to attempt to humiliate their opponents, then his views don't reflect those of his employer, nor do they reflect the views of what athletic competition is about. Its like teaching your kid to laugh at the homeless vet on the freeway offramp.

This guy was out to drop 100 on this school and he was going to do it come hell or high water....something Christ apparently wouldn't do. I'm betting Jesus would have pulled back the reins at halftime.

Here is a link to Dallas Academy, the school on the losing end of the score. http://www.dallas-academy.com/page.asp? ... erview.asp

You will see that there are only 20 girls in the school and that you must test successfully low in academics and be diagnosed with a learning disorder to go there.

I hope someone steps up and buys these girls new warm ups or something. I just hate it when a bully picks on a lesser opponent.

no where does it say they were pressing. Are you guessing they were pressing by the score.

I don't give reading lessons....but if you read what I posted on page 1 of this thread, a parent and the losing coach stated that they pressed and horked up 3's....and didn't let up until they reached 100 points halfway through the 4th quarter....they didn't score after the guy called off the dogs.

I thought you said you don't give reading lessons. ;)

Kudos for your brilliant use of the verb "horked" though...that one's getting immediately incorporated into the Skarp lexicon.

I believe it has Scandanavian origins and its American use began in North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin....its physically impossible for natives in those areas to say the word "hock"...as in "hocking up a lugey".....so they simple changed it to a word they could easily pronounce....hork.

Its six hours long and expresses over and over that HS sports are about what they call, "Teachable Moments", not about winning. There may be alot of things people dont agree with when it comes to High School sports but its just because you are misinformed. The School Board has athletic programs for different reasons than the reason your kids play travel ball. Its the Coaches job to try and balance his desire to compete and win while keeping the principal off the A.D.'s back.

I'll believe that when I stop seeing high school coaches being fired for having losing programs.

There is nothing the winning team did that embarrassed the losing team. Look at their other scores. They were losing by 50-60pts already. At what point does it become embarrassing? 20pts? 30pts?80Pts? I have watched plenty of BAD girls basketball. They embarrass themselves the second they try to dribble, or try to shoot. How many times I have seen a girls game where a player shoots and the ball goes completely over the backboard. Basketball is the most difficult sport for girls to play, and in no other sport do you see teams that look so ridiculous.

Maybe Jesus would have called up the other school and tried to cancel the game so neither team had to endure such pain.

Apparently you obtained your lunch money every day by beating up retarded kids. A complete moron could see that pressing an obviously outmatched team has no other purpose than to totally humiliate your opponent.

Its also a question of class...winning with it and losing with it.

So here's my question...If your opponent can't defend the bunt and their pitchers are throwing meatballs at 40 mph, what are supposed to do? DD's team had this happen, eventually the coach started to tell them leave the bases early and that made the opposing coach upset. So what do you do? Keep the inning going until time runs out? Just asking, I really do not have the answer. I do see your point about the stealing though, that's pretty extreme. Although there could be a history between the teams too

I'll tell you what you do if you hit a double you take a double but you don't try to take extra bases, you don't bunt you don't steal. If you have a big heart you have one players acting like she is going to get a good jump and leave a little early without making it real obvious. Respect the game, respect your opponents and the game will respect you.

Jesus was watching...

...for the "losers": courtside seats to the Dallas Mavericks, new Nike uniforms, tickets to the NBA All Star game, appearances on national TV...and on and on...

The biggest loser??? The poor kid (point guard) with 65 points, 27 steals, 12 - 3 pointers.

"Thanks Coach!!!"
