This is a prime example of showing how the talent at both Nat's is fairly equal. In time the PGF will take over and maybe we can have the PGF in the west and ASA in the east...then meet for Nationals ASA vs PGF...now that would be the way to go.

Impact Gold finished 3rd at ASA - finished 13th at PGF

Gold Coast Hurricanes finished 4th at ASA - finished 33rd at PGF

Wichita Mustangs finished 5th at ASA - finished 13th at PGF

Indiana Magic finished 17th at ASA - finished 33rd at PGF

Strike Zone finished 49th at ASA - finished 5th at PGF
SZ also knocked GCH into losers bracket.

Two 16U teams finished 9th at ASA Gold Nationals - finished 7th & 9th at PGF 16U

With SZ being the anomaly, not sure if the talent is really equally balanced as you think but that does not mean that they both can't co-exist..

Were the Beverly Bandits in both tournaments too or were they different teams?

I wonder if 8 to 12 games the week before PGF and two weeks away from home took a toll on some of the teams doing both ASA Gold and PGF? My guess is these girls were pretty well "Over It" by week end. I felt both tournaments went very well.

Anyone who thinks you can draw a statistically meaningful judgment about which tournament is stronger needs to go work for the Dems or Reps in passing balanced budget legislation. Many factors go into possible differences in finishes in the same organization in ASA and PGF.

1. Week before and week after argument made above seems very plausible given that ASA compressed the schedule due to a player funeral and high school kids lose focus.
2. I would need to compare the rosters of the teams that played in both to see if the same players played in both tourneys.
3. ASA Gold was not a showcase in that most college coaches came to see their committed players play. We did not play PGF but it seemed that many more college coaches were going to PGF to recruit new players. I would need to compare committed play time vs noncommitted play time for the teams that played both.
4. Roster limitations are much tighter on ASA Gold. Given that PGF is in Cali, the teams you compared for play in both might not have had opportunities to add players from Cali where the Cali teams did have that opportunity.
5. No one is saying that Cali teams are not stronger and deeper than most other states' teams. You play all year around and softball is just a much more prominent high school sport in Cali. That would naturally make the PGF and more competitive tournament thus lowering the placement of non-Cali teams. ASA Gold limits bids by region and state. That limits the number of Cali teams that can qualify. It also adds some weaker teams from regions with less competitive softball.
6. On any given day a strong team can lose to a slightly weaker team. And, bracket draw is so important to winning either tournament. If you drop into the loser bracket in the first round you have little or no chance to make it to the championship game. Ex. Impact.
7. Given that a statistically valid comparision is impossible to make, I cannot say one tourney is better than the other. A Las Vegas director should invite the top 10 teams from each and fight it out in mid August! I think that North Florida pitcher committed to Stanford, a 2013 commit with have some fun with Cali talent when she gets to college. I hope the Stanford coach is as good a strategist as the North Florida coach.
