Maybe Jesus would have called up the other school and tried to cancel the game so neither team had to endure such pain.

...for the "losers": courtside seats to the Dallas Mavericks, new Nike uniforms, tickets to the NBA All Star game, appearances on national TV...and on and on...

The biggest loser??? The poor kid (point guard) with 65 points, 27 steals, 12 - 3 pointers.

Since we're now guessing Jesus' role in all this...

...maybe He saw the suffering of the DA kids and, having a closer relationship with the folks at Covenant Christian, suggested to the CC coach that he beat DA mercilessly. So badly that vain attention grabbing whores would flock to the DA kids and bestow them with fame and ephemeral gifts. How's that for the Lord working in mysterious ways?

Hell, I've seen Travel Coaches bunting, and stealing up 15-0. Very classy..........

So here's my question...If your opponent can't defend the bunt and their pitchers are throwing meatballs at 40 mph, what are supposed to do? DD's team had this happen, eventually the coach started to tell them leave the bases early and that made the opposing coach upset. So what do you do? Keep the inning going until time runs out? Just asking, I really do not have the answer. I do see your point about the stealing though, that's pretty extreme. Although there could be a history between the teams too

I'll tell you what you do if you hit a double you take a double but you don't try to take extra bases, you don't bunt you don't steal. If you have a big heart you have one players acting like she is going to get a good jump and leave a little early without making it real obvious. Respect the game, respect your opponents and the game will respect you.

Or as an alternative you could avoid tournaments that are frequented by teams so crappy you have to give a seminar to your players on "how not to humiliate your opponent by running up the score but at the same time keeping it subtle so they don't realize you're carrying them and hurt their feelings anyway".

Hell maybe you could spend that time actually teaching the game instead.

Just now ... I started thinking of this more in Fastpitch Softball terms ... there are certainly games in which closely matched teams can have a game that will be lopsided ... But if your team is undoubtably superior, or visa versa ... how quickly do you have that epiphany ? I think a good Coach, or an observant Bleacher Parent usually knows between the bottom of the first and middle of the second ... when do you, as the Coach of the dominate team start rubbing your forhead and thinking of ways not to rub their noses in it, show a little class and let the obviously outmatched team leave with a little self esteem ... I'm thinking that by the time this team was up 20-0, even the most useless schmegma of a Coach would realize it was time to stand-down ... No, I do not believe in protecting kids feelings ... I think that losing is as much, if not more a valuble lesson as winning ... If kids don't know how to fall down than they never learn how to get up ... I am more concerned about the damage done to the kids who were on the winning team in this rout ...

Well.. at least we usually have mercy rules in softball so its a little different + usually a timer.
Unfortunately, it usually takes the full timer amount to get a good mercy, unless you get real lucky.
Or the worst!! The coach is getting close to a quick wonderful mercy rule.. and he brings in the scrubs... or stops running.

for her efforts, that point guard has been invited to a texas tech basketball game. former head coach bobby knight will congratulate here at halftime. he will then belittle her at center court for not recording a triple double. does anyone besides me miss that a-hole bobby knight?

I will add not stealing home on a passed ball. I've seen that lots of times from both sides of the ball. It is appreciated by those on the losing end.
