Just Bragging

What's on your mind?

by rbi » Fri Mar 29, 2013 10:52 am

First time I really looked at this post since the OP, and did not pay much attn. Well now that its 7 pages long I dug into it to find out this kid is in my backyard. I for one would be real apprehensive about putting anything about my kid on here, even if someone asks me a question about her I would prob PM them as i feel real uncomfortable about posting my kids stuff, and I know my kid HATES it with a passion.

With that said, my kid has been very fortunate to be exposed to great players and great coachs that have all helped her along the way, and along with her YEARS of hard work, attributed to her getting to where she is today, which is headed to pretty cool situation and we are very fortunate, but I prefer other people to talk about my kid, of which a lot of it is comparisons which is to be understood, some of it is negative which is to be expected, but she gets enough praise and has had enough recognition to last a life time, so we take it all in stride, but again its better to be spoke about than to speak IMO.

And finally, in this area you can go to whatever HS you want, if your willing to cart your kid every day, we choose to stay put and had two real solid years and two not so pretty years, good enough for us at D-1 level. I am not one to bash lower levels of HS softball as real good ones come from every level but as a whole D-6 in SJS is lets just say, very very hard to watch. With that said, K's are K's, so she can obviously can pitch, we sure in the heck could of used her. I always love it when people talk about how they beat the Batbusters or the Firecrackers, I always ask, which one there is twenty of them, and people reply, I dont know, gotta love it ;)

I wish her the best of luck, and its great to be proud no matter where she plays or who she plays against but, in the future let her K's do the talking, its such a better feeling when someone else talks about how good your kid is, than to type it or say it yourself.

The thing I found particularly interesting in this thread is the very different way this post was treated in relation to previous posts about younger pitchers whose accomplishments were comparable.

If the original post author has been "lurking" on HB since 2011, then he would be assumed to have witnessed the carnage from the previous similar posts.

I think this poster was treated very well compared to the posts about younger players.

That said, some parents don't realize that an unsolicited complement is much more satisfying than someone agreeing that your DD is awesome.

Tyler's explanation nailed it.

Note to self: the Bull’s eye is not on player but the opinionated, idiot, uneducated parent.
Unfortunately, it is drawn on the players - whether it be an entire team or an individual. It is impossible to be 100% successful in this sport, so it just sets them up for undue attention when they don't measure up to their parent's press. It is much better to just let the kids play without inviting unwanted scrutiny.

Regardless, of how some or by now all do not like my posts, I really respect all of your views. Sometimes, you have to evaluate what fits and doesn’t fit. I will try not to be so sarcastic in future.
Sarcasm is fine - we just need an icon to recognize it. ;)

Other questions:
Is there an age limit to when you should stop posting about daughter? Or just never start? ...

A couple of the epic threads on here were for very young pitchers - Dani and Ray Ray. They probably garnered more flack because their ages suggested the parent didn't have a clue about the big picture. The unwritten rules for posting about your DD do vary somewhat by age.

JMHO, SoCal softball gets bit in the ass sometimes by arrogance that causes it to underestimate unknown teams and players from outside the area. It is best to come in under the radar and not make a big deal about your success afterward. It is extremely difficult and rare for anyone to repeat their success time after time once they're on the radar.

Personally, I liked the post. He was very respectful in my opinion. His title was "Just" "Bragging" as if to say, "Hey I'm proud of my kid and this is why and I'm just talking here..." That's all. If the title would have read, " My Kid is Awesome and everybody should take note" then I could see a reason to "educate" him per se.

She was 250 Strikeouts in 181 innings last summer. She faced the batbusters one time in a showcase and the coach was only allowing each pitcher 2 innings a game then and she drew 3rd and 4th inninggs just happened to be 1-3 in line up all stirkouts the 4-6 the next inning 1 strikeout then two pop ups about 10 feet infront of first base. This was all 16u though. I do all of our games on game changer so if you are interested in watching live stats you can, but I am not totally sure how that works I know my wife watches when she can not makethe games.

:? The only game on GameChanger against a Batbusters team was Nov 4 in the AFC Showcase - https://www.gamechanger.io/game-5095fc2 ... 41b4000008. That was against the San Diego Batbusters team and it shows 16 pitches, 2 strikeouts and 4 flyouts. Please explain.

You really need to be more careful that you don't paint a big target on your DD or people will be gunning for her when she's down here for Zoom into June and Champions Cup this Summer.

I, for one, am extremely excited to hear the reply to PDad's query.

Just wondering, why does that excite you?

There is no doubt we are all proud of our kids achievements. You will quickly learn who will listen and not chastise and who will not. I would love to be alble to tell all about my kids accomplishments without the worry of the pathetic backstabbing but we live in So Cal the land of the insecure. I have learned to share with your trusted friends and your family only. Be proud and the idiots with the poor opinions never hear it to judge. Just not worth the agrevation for your DD. Those who follow the game will know. They are not blind. As they say if you are that good they will find you...

I think Spaz facilitated that tone:

Spazsdad wrote:When this post first came up my initial thought was this is going to get ugly and the first couple replies fit the template. I deleted them. Usually the tone of a thread is established early on so I wanted to avoid it going in tuat direction as I understood scuba was just being proud of his kid
After a couple positive replies it stayed fairly positive considering the topic and its potentiall course.
