You know Sam I was sitting here laughing at how you would turn it around and probably say that I was in the wrong, and you didn't disappoint.

This is a subject I laugh about all the time because I have and know other kids that do other activities and you pretty well just pay up at the beginning of the season, but if you play softball it is somehow someone elses duty to pay their fair share. Don't know how this started but its been this way as long as my kids have played. Doesn't really matter how much money you have, you do fundraising to try and offset the cost even more. Teams that are really good at this can play for free because they raise enough to be completely self sustaining without any money from the parents.

Have a good day and have fun debating the subject. I will continue to read for the entertainment it provides.

Now who is the best 12u out there? Hmmm......

Sam.........you said it ALL..!! If you can't afford travel ball, go play rec ball..!!! That means, don't EXPECT me to GIVE you money at your lousy snack bar or whatever to support YOUR kid..! I don't expect anyone to pay for me and mine, but I've given up vacations, golf, fishing trips...ect.., and I work alot of overtime to insure my kids can play..!(these days, some people don't have a job, let alone overtime for their kids ball tournaments..!) By all means, support the host tournamnets fundraising endeavors, but don't mandate it..!

Have fun with your 400.00 tournaments. However, the host is free to not invite them back and to tell anyone who'll listen to avoid inviting the classless aholes. Freedom of choice is not free. Consequences are the payment. Live with them.

Spazdad, We were not forced to do it, we gladly helped. We were not working off dues we were staying active with the team. I know many people who have had to pay full or half dues when their DD was injured,ie broken bones, etc. Maybe I could have worded it better, but my point was to let people know that you never know who or what your money is going to help. It could be making a difference for someone. The coaches could have easily told my DD we need a warm body, come see us when your healthy and if we have room, maybe.. but they didn't and hosting helped that happen. Did she play, no, but she was still allowed to travel with and be a part of everything without paying dues. That's my point. I will always support and never forget their support.

I hear a lot of “it’s about the girls” however it sure sounds like its about the money. It is a sad day when the criteria for getting invited back to friendly’s is based on snack bar support rather than quality of play and team sportsmanship. A team BBQ is defiantly poor judgment and Iam a advocate for supporting snack bars. But when talk of blacklisting teams for reasons other than poor coach, player or parent sportsmanship is a slippery slope that our sport shouldn’t be heading down. It is about the girls, and they don’t have control over their parents decision to support the snack bar.

Here's a question for ya......Single mom.....sells Tupperware to make ends meet....who do you think she throws parties for.....the extremely nice people who don't spend a dime....or the folks who spend money? Oh sure, the parties are a lot more fun with the nice people....but she makes enough money to feed her kids if she invites the other people.

I don't know what this has to do with supporting a snack bar....I just felt like telling a story.

I understand the point you are driving at. I am a bit naive to the So Cal philosophy. My understanding of the reason for hosting friendly’s is to be part of a network of teams trying to offer cost effective opportunities for our girls to play on a weekly basis. Not having to travel and making some extra money for the team was the cherry on top. I am beginning to realize that in So Cal it is a business.
