Like those pick off plays! Back in the day we had a catcher with a gun. She once told me that she figured once she picked off one runner the other team would probably stop being aggressive so she would sand bag the team in the first couple of innings. She would throw down for steal attempts but not give them the A stuff on pick offs. Then late in the game she would typically pick a runner off base to kill a rally or get an easy out. She was a student of the game - need more of those!

I think some coaches hesitate because they do not like hanging a ball on their pitcher, which is a silly reason in my book.

Personally love back picks, especially with 2 outs, bases loaded and runner at 2b is not paying attention. The look on coaches and players faces when that pick happens is priceless and, honestly, the coaches fault because they aren't watching.

Like the razzle dazzle Sam.

Here's another

No-one on base.
Batter hits to outfield.
Catcher sprinting follow
to first base.
As SS & F4 are covering second base and retrieving throw,
first base pulls off the bag
( Runner & Coach see firstbase player away from bag)
catcher takes back pic position at 1st behind the batter/runner rounding first.
Turn & burn with throw!
Runner go sit down!

Definitely a much more rare play to see. Can remember two exceptional moments that happened. Once when I was playing on the original Joe Grubbs O.C. Batbusters team against Phil Bruders defending national champions Raiders. Plucked the runner off at first. ZAP!!!
Another phenomenal time it happened was while I was playing for Long Beach State, playing against defending national champions Cal State Fullerton another plucked runner at first. ZAP !!!

:D Catcher at firstbase making a tag!

Your Stories?

Why SS and F4 at 2 Bag? I see that alot and its very irritating/bad rotation

:) that was my short story version described as "covering second base and retrieving the throw"

To be clearer...
Depending on which side of the Outfield the ball was hit to
Either the second baseman or shortstop would cover 2nd base.
The other float out as a cut off.
Or
Depending on which side of the field the ball was hit to the shortstop or second baseman may play a role backing up the throw to second.

Our team has embraced the back pick strategy and have gotten out of the inning quite a few times. Still working on her craft to become better.

There are some clips in the videos with batting as well, sorry about that.

These are from my DD's last three tournaments.
