Score keeping question - fielders choice

What's on your mind?

by Sue Trubovitz, Turbo » Wed Apr 10, 2019 6:42 am

Another situation
for the thinking minds
of heybucket.

1 runner on second base.
Runner goes to steal.
Catcher fires to 3rd.
Overthrow to LF.
Runner heads home.
LF throws home.
Out is made.

How would that go
in your team book?

Is it fielders choice all the way
around on this play?
Or hmmm? Maybe not? ;)

CS 7-2, with a note explaining the overthrow to 3B. It would be a E2 if R would stay at 3B, but I give F2 the assist because she stayed with the play.
Fielder's choice only if the play is designed that way. For example if you have a runner on 3B, after the pitch, runner has a lead and F2 overthrows F5 who is on the bag (as decoy) and hits F6 behind 3B. F6 then throws to F2 for the out. The play is designed to trick R on 3B and maybe even 3B base coach.

SB with a 7-2 put out. If she scored it would be an E2 but since she was thrown out at home you score the SB to third and 7-2 put out when she tried to advance. Not a CS in that situation.

More thinking fun,

Which is a fielders choice?
Are they both?
Or maybe not? ;)

1. Catcher throwing at a
stealing runner?
Or
2. Catcher throwing back pic?

Sue, some of your posts in this thread indicate you seem to have an issue with the FC being used in scoring. It is a simple and valid scoring tool.
The play in your preceding post has nothing to do with a FC.
‘ a play in which the fielding team's decision to put out another player allows the batter to reach first base safely.” Note an out is not required for a play to be a FC
Why does this bother you?

An out is not required for a play to be scored as a FC
