Ground balls/Fly balls

What's on your mind?

Should ALL players take ground balls and fly balls both during practice? No matter their primary position.

Mine do!!! Even pitchers and Catchers. Well I have 12u and dont believe they shouldn't focus on certain spots. I wanna develop an athlete that is ready to play anywhere she goes and can help any team immediately if situation arises or presents itself. Gotta build better athletes...they need to have value so when they get beat out at a position at that time will come - they need to be able to have a pretty good secondary or third position.

That's just my 2 cents!!!

Yes they should, but not all teams believe in that concept especially as they get older.

Yes, they should.
If there's a coach out there that answers no to this question, explain your reasoning. If you know a coach who would answer no to this question, give their name so they can be avoided.

We’ve played on 2 teams and both coaches did it. Although there seems to be more grounders for OF then fly balls for IF, but definitely gotta do both.

Does Mike Candrea or Patrick Murphy hit flyballs to his pitchers and catchers every practice?

Dont know. Do you?
Can name off over a dozen D1 colleges that do. At that level with 28 people they pay for on their roster they can do whatever they want. Still think they should.
Travel ball different story, Prepairing players.

One of the greatest examples to share of the positive results of all players getting defensive training is
Olympian Lisa Fernandez.
Currently coaches for UCLA.
Known for her outstanding career pitching, hitting and playing 3rd base.

Go Defense !

Well that's probably true for Lisa but is she the exception or the rule?
