What's on your mind?

Your payment is your scholarship but like most things today it’s never enough.

I agree. I really don't mind someone getting a little kick back off jerseys, number, etc...but how long before it turns into the richest colleges buying the best athletes? I don't know how one could police that.

Isn’t that already happening? Or I am supposed to believe that every athlete just really wants to play in the SEC? The rich always get richer!!

Touché'...lol...but is the SEC the richest or just has better recruiting power?

I've been holding off until I got in front of an actual computer.

My first reaction to paying College athletes is Don't wish to hard, you might get what you wish for"

What I mean by that is that if college athletes are paid it opens up a HUGE can of worms:

Which athletes get paid(only scholarships)?
What are the Title IX implications?
What are the pay levels?
What labor laws come into effect?

There is a misconception that schools make money from sports. Although many do, the NCAA says that only 20% of FBS schools make money- the rest of them are subsidized. If required to pay athletes will the costs become too much for many schools. Will they drop football(i.e. Northeastern, Hofstra) or might they drop all sports scholarships(i.e. IVY league,DIII) Just some things to ponder.

Top softball pitchers and hitters would probably get a little something.

I guess you are unaware what capitalism is??? To things go against your argument.

1) Too many "public" universities- this would be more akin to socialism(or even communism)
2) The primary purpose of these schools is supposed to be education(forgot about that) not sports.
3) These institutions are "Non-profits" by organization

The NCAA was set up not to protect athletes, but to protect the competition among member schools. The concept is that relative competition is better for all. That's why there is a limit on scholarships, players etc...- Similar to the drafts, salary caps etc... that you see in the pros

IMO student/athletes should be just that- STUDENT/athletes. The one and done in basketball are a joke and I think the schools should lose scholarships for the practice. These kids barely go to class and drop-out once the season is over-please.

I do think that student athletes should receive some kind of stipend( a research student in chemistry does) to cover basic expenses food, etc. Honestly I think makes sense that family income play a part in what that amount is

Yes, there is a responsibility of the student to utilize the scholarship to get an education and a degree, but we also must recognize that many of these student athletes are taken advantage by some schools.

As mentioned before, the NBA needs to set up a true minor leagues(like baseball and hockey) for those players that really have no place being in college

Here in CT the two top paid State Employees are the UCONN Men's and Women's Basketball coaches. Is that a good thing or a warped value system? I certainly can make a case for both!

This not a McArthur quote-brainy quote is wrong. It belongs to Marine General Smith from the battle of the Chosin Resevoir where US Marines had to fight their way out after brining encircled by the Chinese.

It was McArthur’s miscalculation and hubris that allowed this to happen

Shit happens and so do you.
That's the name under the quote when it up. I'll raise my hand to not being a history major.
