California TCS Sparkler cancelled?

What's on your mind?

by sdiamond » Tue Apr 28, 2020 9:48 am

Was wondering if Teams are still discussing the possibility of Going to the Sparkler in June. I have spoken to many local coaches here in Southern California and although they are waiting to see what TCS does, some of their families due to layoffs are struggling to make ends meet and may have to cancel their trips do to funds being short.

We all also have discussed the Zoom into June event here in So. Cal and because of our Governor and his hardline stance on keeping CA shutdown until after Memorial Day, the probability is very low.

Thoughts?

Colorado is now part of the joint effort to stop the spread & reopen.

They have joined forces with the West Coast Alliance , I believe it is the following state
CA
WA
OR
UT
CO
NV
AZ

So my guess is what ever CA does CO will follow suit. I think on May 15 we will open to smaller groups 10 or less.
If you look at the press conference TCS had last week , It looks like they are most likely going to break the 4th of July event into multiple States / Regions , but in order to host an event with 4 fields Government would have to allow groups of 500 & would most likely have social dist. as well as all players use of PPE.

We're going to have to tread lightly into the season.
This time last month, March 28, The US had 122,653 COVID-19 cases & 2,112 deaths (https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6913e2.htm)
As of today, April 28, the US has 1,032,131 cases & 58,906 deaths (https://news.google.com/covid19/map?hl= ... ceid=US:en)
Looking at numbers only, that's a 741.51% increase in cases (1,032,131-122,653)/122,653 x 100 = 741.51%) and an increase of 2,689.11% in deaths (58,906-2,112)/2,112 x 100 = 2,689.11%.
Mind you, this is in one month WITH SOCIAL DISTANCING IN PLACE.
Another reminder, there is NO CURE, and NO VACCINE available to prevent the disease.
Tread lightly

Since i've posted this Governor Newsome held a press conference and how these States are going to reopen in stages. I believe it will affect this years Sparkler and also Showcase By The Sea in San Diego in August. I see the next Showcase event on the West Coast being City Lights in Las Vegas come November a last hope for our 2021 Players.

Listening to TCS You Tube post last week and the difficulties they are going through regarding this pandemic concerns me if TCS can survive with all the cancellations. TCS has been such a dominant force in getting our young ladies exposed to College Coaches.

PGF hasn't publicly stated their financial situation and the Nationals in California are in Jeopardy too.

Travel Teams will be changing also, girls moving up to a higher level, girls graduating High Schools and in several areas of the Country HS have their season in the fall and here out west we have it in the Spring starting in February and it becomes a dark season for thousands of girls.

I learned at an early age to be flexible, however this situation is different than any other in our lifetime. It will take a combined effort of many including organizations possibly changing their dues amounts because so many parents being layed off and to the organizations like TCS and PGF lowering entry fee's for teams and cities lowering field costs.

Softball is not the only Sport facing these challenges and many of us have children who play not only Softball but Volleyball, Baseball Football and Soccer to name a few.

Maybe a Zoom Conference with many top College and Travel Ball Coaches to discuss the challenges should be done.

Again, I hope all of you are Healthy and safe!

50% of deaths in CA are 60 and over. OC has had around 40 deaths in total. The mass hysteria is completely unwarranted. The government will keep the screws on as long as possible to try and force is into some socialist utopia “new normal”

Spaz, that would mean the other 50% of deaths in CA would be 59 and under :|
If games played in OC and not in LA, San Bernandino, Riverside or San Diego Counties because OC has only 40 deaths, that doesn't stop teams coming in from other hotbed counties and commingling w/ the OC Population, potentially increasing deaths in OC.
We will have to plan for a new normal. It's inevitable. The Spanish Flu in 1918-1920 changed US healthcare from cash on demand services or church sponsored healthcare to the new normal of employer-provide healthcare & social Medicaid services. I wonder what changes are coming in the next 12-24 months.

Texas TB organizations have been doing video conferencing discussing ways to make an awesome summer. Many organizations are pulling out of fly to events so they can keep travel to drive-able distances. Dallas, Houston, Central Tx. Also, looking at creating a Summer League format with 3 regional divisions culminating in season ending tourney. Also creating and propping existing events to create opportunities for college coaches to view online or in person.

Orange Socks:

I have suggested video conferences to several coaches of different organizations. This is why I posted here in Heybucket to hopefully reach out to a bigger audience of coaches.

California has one of the largest number of TB Teams in the nation, however we probably have the harshest restrictions as of now more so than any other State in the Country. Orange County hosts the PGF Nationals and with the Governors new restrictions they appear to be in jeopardy. I think all the organizations and TB Coaches have been just waiting patiently to see what TCS and PGF decide

I am sure College Coaches are being talked to about there plans to travel and this would be a determining factor for TCS and PGF. After all this is why teams attend these events.

There are just so many "If's" and we still have 56 days until the Sparklers International Team event is scheduled to begin and 60 days until Teams need to be at the Opening Ceremonies in Colorado for the Sparkler.

In the mean time I'm hoping this Country doesnt have civil unrest due to the restrictions being set forth by certain Governors I'm hoping families don't lose their homes or their jobs as the unemployment rate has reached nearly 30% I feel for the future of our children, sports and other extra curricular activities for children are a vital part in their growth these activities keep many on the straight and narrow paths of life.

Patience is the key here no one really knows what this virus is going to do. It has been in Europe longer than in the USA and its still causing issues lets just hope the Doctors and Scientists can find a vaccine sooner than later.

Be healthy stay strong especially for the Kids

The 2020 Little League World Series for baseball and softball have been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Little League International president Steve Keener announced the news during a Facebook Live video on Thursday. The annual events featuring top youth baseball and softball teams is just the latest sporting event to either be postponed or taken off the schedule completely because of the global health crisis.

“It was inevitable, and we learned through consultation with officials that it would be irresponsible and impossible to bring teams and thousands of people from all over the world into the Williamsport community and also those other six communities,” Keener said after noting that all the cancellations apply to all six of the organization’s divisions.

“With the travel restrictions and immigration issues, the impossibilities of bringing many people to many states and many locations for qualifying tournaments, these are the two primary reasons we had to make this decision.”

The organization is encouraging local leagues to consider hosting play if state and federal health guidelines allow for things like baseball and softball games to be played this summer.

Today May 8th TCS had a Zoom Meeting with 10 Travel Ball Team executives. Nothing was discussed regarding California Zoom into June however TCS said the Colorado Sparkler is still a go and will start on 7-1. Nothing was said about the International Team Games. Many TB teams will not be flying into Colorado but will drive. More information to come next week. TCS is doing an outstanding job Communicating!

I'm in Colorado and I am unsure I want my 16U player to play in the Sparkler. With all these teams coming into town, bringing who know's what....I just think it's not a safe decision to hold this tournament. NCAA, Little League World Series, Major League Baseball....none of them are playing this summer....but yet TC wants us to throw our teens out there and see what happens. I don't think that's the smartest decision here. Our schools here haven't even reopened(and don't know if they will in the fall).
I personally believe we should just be safe, call the season and issue refunds to the families that need the money. Lets try again next year. We don't need to push this, not with your kids.
