Stuff stolen at the park?

What's on your mind?

by Judd » Sun May 04, 2008 8:49 am

I learned a little lesson this weekend.

We go to a local tourny to watch some people we know playing, park was like 20 minutes from us. I throw my sons bike in the truck and off we go. Bikes are not allowed in the park, but due to the layout, I tell him he can ride arond the park on the sidewalk. I guess he got bored and found some kids to play with inside the park. I ask him where is the bike, and he says next to the truck. I figure OK, whos going to take the bike. Well we leave and the bike is gone. Next to the fields is a skate park so I make a beeline over there and dont see it. We get in the truck and leave and as we come around the skate park, I see the bike behind one of the ramps, hidden. So I throw it into reverse and head back. I tell my son to go get it and I walk into the park after him. I see the looks and I see one very obvious suspect who is looking and yelling to his friend. Then points to my son as he is walking towards me with his bike. All I can think is "Judd hit one of them and its a child abuse charge". I made a comment, another kid got slick and I just had to walk off.

I told my son, he got caught slipping, and we were just lucky to get it back.

So be careful out there. It may not be your fellow softball parents with the sticky fingers

Theft is rampant at major parks. People mill around there, just to steal. When, I am going just to watch, I have to unload the equipment and put it in the garage.

The only taste I've had of this alleged rapant theft was our one trip to Phoenix. Never had one problem in crapholes like Artesia, San Pedro, Wilmington, Downey and Fullerton.

Yeah, I am referring to Phoenix. I just wasn't going to say it.

Big tournament this year. Ball park is next to a trailer park. My 13 yr old son likes to hang out talking on the phone and playing Nintendo. He could care less about softball. Parking lot is out past center field. I was sitting on a bucket outside the dugout during a game and watched two 16-17 yr olds on bikes come out of the trailer park, catch sight of my son walking in the parking lot pretty much alone. Watched one flank him and the other get off his bike and started towards him. I went running on the field in the middle of the game yelling out in center field where the parking lot is at these guys to get away from my kid. Other half is sprinting towards the park exit as the two guys jump back on their bikes and take off. My kid was about 10 feet from getting jacked for his phone and game and probably hurt pretty good. He had no clue. Everyone in the game thought I was nuts for running out on the field. He learned a big lesson that day about knowing his surroundings.

Too bad you didn't have time go over there without scaring them off.

"Boy, I wish I could've caught him doing it. I'd have given anything to catch that a**hole doing it. It'd been worth him doing it just so I could've caught him doing it."

Just ask the 14U Strikkers about Phoenix. Not only did the thieves steal the players/teams equipment, they stole the truck it was in.
I believe in Karma. That means I can do bad things to you all day long and assume you deserve it.
