10/12 U ALREADY HAVE A BERTH AND PLAYING AT STATES

I saw the below on another post: According to Southern California Championship Tournament Rules (Yellow Book Pg. 38) item: 2. Teams Having a berth to Nationals may enter any tournament that qualifies the winner to National Championship ONLY if they forfeit their existing berth to Nationals.- Supposedly Right from the book.

If that's true why would a team attend say state for example and take the chance of losing their berth? Are there not 1 or 2 teams scheduling in Hemet/Winchester this weekend that are already qualified?

This was already discussed in another topic that teams with a berth are now allowed to play in these tournaments. This was also discussed at the ASA meeting.

I do not know of any 10u or 12u teams doing this, but I know of a 14u team doing this. Maybe they would like to play in a tournament where all the best teams are going to be. Only thing I find bad about this is that a team that may not have lost, will now be out. The berth will go to the next highest finishing team, but, maybe the other team would have gone further.

As of now, the only 2 So Cal teams that have the berth to 12U ASA Nationals are Anderson Heat (qualified in Colorado 2 weeks ago), and TeamSmith (won 10U western nationals 2007). There are no other teams on the list of participants that have an ASA Nationals Berth.

Any coach that is willing to put the teams berth on the line is either too brave, or just plain

and i agree with Sftbll4ever, if you have your berth already, why possibly keep someone else from going?

SoCal ASA has no authority to take a berth from a team that earned it elsewhere in accordance with ASA rules...period. Doesn't matter what the Yellow Book says.
