Who gets to go to regionals?

What's on your mind?

by skoshee » Tue Jun 03, 2008 12:54 pm

I was hoping someone could explain who gets to go to Regionals? On the Socal-asa site it says the 4th& 5th place from State get to go and then there is some new Pacific Region 14 rules? Can anyone explain...

i think they are taking the next 8-10 teams from states...
and at regionals, they take the top two teams for sure to nationals, but usually add a few more from the regional teams...

Only finshers 4th-7th placeat SoCal State get berths to Regionals (speaking SoCal only). The top 2 finishers at Regionals get berths to Nationals. Fill-in berths are assigned from Regionals in the order the teams finished that tournament.

thats correct.
but last year they took through the teams tied for 9th, and this year a team tied for ninth told me they had received a berth to regionals...and that the asa lady told him they were taking the next 8 or so teams, which would be ALMOST all teams through those tied for 9th...one of those tied for 9th is SOL, same as last year...and not sure how they figure that one out...

Well not at first, Aguirre did not have a berth at first. They received their Regional berth when CA 94 qualified in South Dakota on 6/15. Additionally, because so many top finishers qualfied elsewhere and 4 teams folded the Regional berths actually dropped down to 17th place.

Team                        Qualified     Place
-----------------------     ---------     -----

This is exactly what SoCal ASA said they would not do only a year earlier. They told us that 4-7 at State would get berths to Regional and if those teams did not go, they would not fill the slots. Looks like they may have screwed the pooch...(their favorite managers)....and gone back to the trickle down theory. I applaud them for pulling their collective heads out of their rears and smelling the roses for once.
