What's on your mind?

I am not good at posting photos. If this link works, I would like for you to tell me what you see in this still photo. I am looking for both good points and negative points.

She is a 10 YO TB player and just finished 5th grade. She is new to my lessons and is rather good for this area. She can hit 46 sometimes but is generally at 41/42.

I know what I think, which I couldn't see while catching her. What do you think?

The trees on the left are not idigenous to the area.
the basketball hoop is only 9' 10".
ok, sorry...

It looks like she was airborne before her front foot landed, but sometimes the picture makes it seem worse than in real time.
is she opening and closing to get her hips out of the way?
I did stay at a Holiday Inn not too long ago, but my only experience is catching pitching lessons for the last 6 yrs...
Deserve's got nothin' to do with it.

I agree with Spaz. From my bucket experience, it looks like her arm is lagging behind. I think at the point when her stride foot is landing, her arm should be at or close to 6 o'clock.

Thanks - and that combined with the lack of "wrist cock" would be what is causing her to look like she has to get a pretty good "shoulder effort" into the pitch, maybe.

My back foot stays in contact with the ground. I am looking at her back foot, too.

She is likely leaping, crow hopping, and has her wrist outside her elbow (assuming she is even pitching underhand and not a submarine baseball pitcher). She is close to outside the 24" pitching plate. He pivot foot is in the air. She is replanted.

This is like a who's who of illegal pitches.

She needs fundamental pitching.. speed doesnt matter, because she is obviously very illegal and developing bad habits.

In addition to what has already been said. I would say her glove hand is not down line and IF she is throwing a fastball her hand is not properly positioned for a proper snap.

Tuscon,

IMHO you need to start with the footwork. Hard to tell from the photo, but the foot work looks to be a mess. Then you can start working on the arm circle. If she is throwing as hard as you say, by fixing these two things she can probably go far. The right foot should finish next to the power line just behind or even with the left foot. She seems to have too much weight forward and not following the power line to the plate. This might be what is throwing off her arm circle as well. Good luck,
