This was truly a team effort as we endured through several injuries. We had to play with one catcher, had our 3rd baseman fracture her thumb, had to play one game with 4 starters out of position, lost my girl (who was pitching the championship game at the time in the 5th inning) due to injury, and yet, they played as a team and stepped up to the challenge.
Congratulations also to the Columbia (MO) Rockers who played a great game as well in the championship. This team poses a tremendous offense that can bunt on you 1-9 and/or hit with power. They are also well coached and demonstrated that by trying several "trick plays." I'm proud of our girls for defending those plays and so got an out (2 times at the plate and one time on the bases) before the runner could score. Thanks also to the many people watching and complimenting our girls.
The Tomahawks have now played 38 games in 29 days and so, we're taking this week and weekend off. As many of you know, in the State of Illinois, we play spring ball and so, my daughter played 32 games in HS. She needs a break!
Side Notes:
- Why do so many teams leave trash in the dugouts? Is it that hard to pick it up and throw it in the trash can?
- Why do teams enter a tournament playing "up" and then when they lose, congratulate you on beating their 14U team? We are a 1st year 16U with half of our kids able to play 14U!
- Isn't it nice to enter tournaments that RUN ON TIME! The Collinsville Extreme Club Team puts on a tournament that is First Class all the way. They also provide shuttle services for older people, a place for your children that aren't playing to get out of the sun, a carnival attraction where you purchase a "day wrist band" and so, your kids can do that, and some of the finest umpiring in this area. They also have an ambulance on standby at the field for the entire tournament!!! To say that this is a huge event is an understatement.
- Are there ever enough bathrooms or parking?
- Plaques and Medals for the players is a nice touch to a tournament.
Again, just some thoughts. I apologize for such a long post.
