Recently watched a 14U tournament and between pitches the 3rd baseman turned (not just her head, her complete body) and stared at the 3rd base coach while he gave his batter the signal.

The 3rd base coach became upset and felt it was unsportmanslike.

I couldn't find anything in the rule book taking exception to this strategy and the umpire said it was completely legal... Honestly I've never seen a team go to this extent to steal a signal....

I also don't recall seeing the USA Olympic team perform this activity which is where I really set my standard..

How about a base coach who stares down a pitcher on every pitch trying to pick out a change up grip and scream SIT in the middle of her delivery to let the batter know each time a change up is coming, at ASA Nationals none the less.

At practice, I hit off our pitchers so the defence gets to read a real hit, (and its fun for me) and one time i turned my head to see where the catcher was setting up. Next pitch was a fastball square in the thigh! I had a bruise for 3 weeks. Girls are meeeen! Oh and yeah, it fixed the problem.
Im just sayin...

That's a good move by the 3B, she is making sure the coach gives the sign to the batter before she gets into position. Some coaches will call plays based on what the defense gives them. But if the defense does not setup until after the sign is already given, its harder to tell what they are giving you. JMHO

How insecure would you have to be to be concerned that a 14 YO is looking at you give signs? Here's a hint - everyone is looking at you. Change up your signs.

Why have your pitcher hit a batter and put her on (or injure her), just because you are lacking in giving signs?

I can understand the mindset of coming U/I on a batter if this was a college game, but you're talking about 14u here.

Please tell me you're not advocating potentially injuring a 13-yr old little girl because you're incapable of changing signs or your method is too easy to read?

C'mon coach! Get real!
