really fast, or just runs good..?

What's on your mind?

didn't get much feedback on my lefty/slapper question...so, here'one. What are the basic parameters for a really fleet-footed player vs. one that runs good. I know a time from home to first is one gauge (is it taken from the right or left-handed side..), but what times are good and really good..?

On our team everybody started in the right handed batters box, the time started when the first step touched the ground and stoped when first base was touched, Good times are 2.75 the fastest time I seen was 2.40

only 3 girls were that fast on the team 16u, the 2.40 girl runs high hurdles during the school softball season.

With that speed I'm sure they are verballed already. I mean sub 2.8 is insanely fast

No one signed yet. 2.58 girl had so much talent I wish I could bottle it and sell it, She met a boy starting getting bad grades and stopped playing softball. 2.54 girl is on a gold team and 2.40 girl dosen't know if she should play 16u again, move up or just run track only.

dd is a first year 16u, has been a very solid line drive hitter in the past( that has shown respectable power), but I'm getting alot of advice to switch her to lefty because of her athleticism....what are the times that may get you noticed..? I need some objective input on wheather or not we really have something to work with..! (I'm thinking it's getting a little late in the game to go lefty...)

It's never too late to switch her over ... just do it for fun if nothing else ... I've had gals tell me they never did it and they surprised themselves when I moved them over ... take her times from both sides ... that way she can see the difference and may want to move over if she can shave time ... I think anyone in the low 3's into the high 2's is fast ... that being said, a couple years back I found out that the fastest gals from home to 1st were not always the fastest stealing ... or rather let me say that some of the slower gals from home to 1st were some of the faster gals stealing ... go figure ? I came to the conclusion that they had better reaction time to the release and were getting better jumps ...

It may not just be the jump, I think some of it is how smart they run the bases. My dd is one of the slower girls on her team, but she always ranks high in stolen bases because she runs smart. I think the faster girls sometimes rely on their speed, where the slower girls know they have to work on the mental part of the running game in order to compete.

I think what a few of the posters are getting at is ... check your stopwatch. Caitlin Lowe runs a 2.6, so that means all three girls you mentioned are faster than her. Very unlikely. 2.4 ???? Unbelieveable!!!
