Cleats: Metal or molded after ACL injury?

What's on your mind?

by frogs_mom_15 » Fri Oct 10, 2008 10:47 am

DD is getting ready to start HS ball and the cleats discussion came up. Right now she has the Ringor playmakers and loves them. Should we stay with the same brand only in the metal? What about interchangeable? I have heard that they really don't hold up that well and wear out quickly. Should you stay with the same brand name of both styles? Do you think it would make a difference to have the molded Ringor's for travel and say, UA's metal for HS?

Just looking for some opinions.
Thanks

Metal is good for speed, just make sure she practices in them a lot and has the correct positioning on slides. If you see her natural movement on a slide is a sitting motion, or feet down, stay with molded. As for metal (and molded), I really like the Mizuno's. They are super light and comfy. On the other hand, I don't know of metal cleats out there that are super comfy for catchers, if that's her position in HS too.

Interchangable cleats do wear out fast. If you go that route, buy a few sets of replacements.

Screw-ins are nice, but they tend to wear down pretty quick. Molds are easiest, but don't have the traction of metal and screws.

Metal can be pretty hard on a young lady's knees - didn't Frog have a pretty significant injury not too long ago? Is she back in shape and ready to deal with that potential again?

How's her recovery doing? Good we hope???
Being from NorCal, what do I know anyway???

Thanks for asking ditzo. Frog is doing well and making great progress rehabing after ACL surgery. That is sort of the point of this post. I should have mentioned it. She wants to wear the metal for HS, but I afraid she will screw up the knee again with a quick stop or pivot. Mom is freaking out as it is! :P

I guess the question wasn't clear either. What I wanted to know was, if we get the metal cleats, should we stay with the Ringors? Same brands. Would it make a difference to get a different brand? DD also likes the Mizuno metal and the Under Armor metal.

Oh, and her favorite is the slide bye, no feet to get hung up.
