BEST COLLEGE SOFTBALL STADIUMS AND FACILITIES and WORST

What's on your mind?

by NORCALGOLD » Tue Oct 14, 2008 10:37 pm

I have been looking at college softball stadiums and have noticed the east seems to have much nicer facilities than the west coast.Arkansas new stadium looks fantastic so does Maryland then there are schools like Virginia and Purdue that look very weak. Some nice ones in the west like Washington and UCLA, But there are some horrible ones like CAL and Oregon.
Norte Dame is building a very nice stadium .Sure would like to see some new Stadiums in the west. What are some of the nicer stadiums around the nation and what are some of the worst
and who are building new ones.

Arizona has a nice stadium with a great video scoreboard - ASU has a great stadium - Tennessee has a brand new stadium - Stanford has a nice stadium - Cal State Fullerton is pretty nice - Michigan has a new stadium - Georgia and Georgia Tech have great stadiums with Tech being brand new - Fresno State has a real nice stadium - those are the ones I've been to.

Been to AZ, ASU and Stanford...

Esthetically, Stanford is very nice from a spectator standpoint too - with the trees and the over-all setting - field facility looks pretty well set up too. AZ looks to be a pretty nice place too, although it's jammed in right against the street, but once inside, it's nice. ASU didn't impress me that much. As a spectator, sitting in the stands and looking past the field it's downright ugly (IMHO). I couldn't imagine enduring a game in the AZ sun in the all-metal stands! Field conditions were reasonable, but once outside the stadium, it was a lot of clutter. Of course at the time, there was a lot of construction ongoing, but even if there wasn't, I wasn't impressed.
Being from NorCal, what do I know anyway???

I have not been to a lot of facilities yet (we start college trips this year) but the facilities at my alma mater, University of Hartford are nice - new state of the art field and nice snack bar. My dd has enjoyed various camps there and had a great time.

The best Stadium and facilities that I've ever seen first hand are Tennessee's no contest.

Haven't been to Cal but have heard there's some lacking

The Baylor University in Waco has a pretty nice field and stadium, no big scoreboard but the setting is nice and the field is right next to the baseball stadium which is nice. It's only downside is that the batter hits into the wind most days and they have an 8' fence to keep the ball in the yard, it's not Coors Field in Denver to say the least.

Baylor has a decent sized video screen in Center Field. You can't see it very well in these pictures though. Follow the links to the 360 degree pictures and you can can get a good look at the entire stadium. It is a nice one.

Baylor does have a great softball complex. U of Texas has a nice complex, that is going through a face lift. They are adding a jumbo HD scoreboard, new seat backs to every seat, and more minor cosmetic changes. It should be very nice once the season starts. A&M also has a nice complex. The Arkansas complex is going to be one of the best when they finish.

The University of Louisville has a very nice new stadium. It is called Ulmer Stadium.
