Hustle
Three players, coach, two cones, four balls for this fielding/outfield drill.
The cones are placed about thirty feet away from coach across from each other at least 8’ apart.
Player #1 is about 3-4’ in front of cones “the fielder”. Player #2 is to the far right of coach with a ball “runner”. Player #3 is next to coach to be the “catcher”.
A ball is placed on the ground about 6’ in front of Player #1 by Player #2.
The drill starts when the Coach rolls a grounder to Player #1, Player #1 throws ball to Player #3 and then Player #1 hustles back to starting spot and then runs up on the placed ball and then throws that one to Player #3 and then hustles back to starting spot. Meanwhile player #2 runs out and places another stationary ball about 6’ in front of Player #1’s starting spot.
Coach then throws a soft popup to the far left and deep behind the cones. Player #1 must run around cone (taking an angle, using dropstep) and go catch the ball, throw to Player #3, go back to starting point and then go up an “field” stationary ball placed by Player #2, then throw it to Player #3 and go back to starting point.

Player #3 rotates to Player #2, #2 rotates to Player #1 spot and the drill starts again.

We also try to do a competition at the end of our hitting sessions. We use the basketball court markings as guides for placement of some of our drills. Two cones are placed at the free-throw line the width of lane.
Place a tee at the half court line. Place a foam or whiffle on the tee and have each player take turns trying to hit the ball on the ground, or a line drive through the cones for five points. When everyone has when through once, move the tee back about 10’ and start again. We keep moving back until we are at the end line at the opposite end.
Variations: Do not use a tee, the player must toss the ball to herself and then hit through the cones. Do not give points, if player doesn’t hit the ball through the cones, she is out. Last person in wins (I do it this way when we have a lot of players and short on time).
