Question on HS Senior and Work Ethic

What's on your mind?

by gottaplay » Mon Nov 24, 2008 11:08 am

My DD is a senior in HS this year and we have a couple of schools that are interested in her. We go to the normal weekly lessons but we've been running into an issue lately where she doesn't want to do any type of practice at home. She never complains about outside practices (lessons, practice with travel ball, HS, etc) but when it comes to the simplest things at home, she always has an excuse.

My DH is not pushing her to do a lot at home, but he's told her for him to keep paying for lessons, she's got to do her homework (working on a new swing, working on backhands, etc) by just simply going into the garage and doing some simple work. We've never had this issue in the past, she's always been fairly self motivated. But it's very frustrating when she's so close to the final goal and then she starts doing this.

Just wondering from all of you who have been through this before, have you run into this and if so, what should I do? I'm wondering if it's sort of mental, she sees the end and its kind of scary, so she's rebelling without even realizing it?

So I have 5 more years of my daughter not wanting to do the extra work at home to get better. I was hopeing that that would pass before her senior year...

By senior year, I had to let DD make her own choices. She was an excellent athlete, but come to find out - she didn't want to go to college. She did try it, but wasn't interested.

If you have said that you are not going to keep paying for the lessons, you will probably have to follow through.

P.S. She will be fine.

Take away all of her gadgets - cell phone, iPod, etc etc.
Lock her in the garage.
Wait.
And wait.
And wait.
Eventually she'll start working.
:D
Don't worry about tomorrow. You did that yesterday.
